It was 12pm when Mary woke up. It was 12:02 when Mary walked down the stairs. And it was 12:03 when Mary saw Susan crying at the dining room table.
"Susie?" She whispered, moving ever so closely to her dear friend. "What's wrong?"
Susan looked up, her eyes puffy from crying all morning. "Thomas never came home."
Mary sat next to her friend and hugged her fiercely. After a moment of hugging, Mary grabbed Susan's hand and said, "Susie. We're gonna figure out who's doing this, and we're gonna put a stop to it before anything gets out of hand."
Susan smiled, genuinely smiled and said, "Yeah."
The tv was set to a news channel and all of a sudden a news caster came on air and shouted, "Breaking News! A new virus is covering the world, killing anyone who contracts it. Scientist have never seen a virus like it. It kills you, and then hours later, you rise from the dead. Stay safe, America."
Susan and Mary shared a look, Susan stood up quickly and ran to her phone, "Martha, come to my house now and bring your family." She hung up and then dialed another number, "Barbara? Yes, hello. Come to my house and bring your family, Mary is here and Martha is on her way." She hung up.
About thirty minutes later there was a knock on the door, it was Martha. Another thirty minutes later, it was Barbara. But, when Barbara came in she was out of breath, "The streets, the streets are filled with them."
