Saphia's POV

I stepped out of the Express and heard cursing behind me.

"For Pete's sake!" I didn't have to look back to know that Eliza was being her usual, clumsy self. It was colder than I remembered on the platform. I tried to keep near the others winding my way through the crowd of robes. We managed to reach a small clearing in the flood of students on the other side of the platform.

"First years this way, " I immediately recognised Hagrid's familiar voice and I turned to see him towering over the sea of bobbing heads.

"That's you, Cassandra!" Eliza giggled, mostly to herself. Erica and I sniggered.

"Hilarious." she retorted and smirked sarcastically.

"We'd better go!" Eliza announced, "Don't want to miss the holy lasagne."

I rolled my eyes and nudged her side playfully.

"You guys go wait in line for the carriages, I'll just be a sec"

The others disappeared, weaving through the crowd.

Suddenly I felt a heavy hand on my shoulder behind me. My smile broadened, knowing immediately who owned that hand. I turned, opening my arms into a large embrace, Hagrid's hug was warm and familiar.

"It's great to see you" he said. I forgot how much I had missed him this past summer. I had been so bored stuck in my room all day with nothing to --

"Come on, Saph, we are all waiting!" Erica shouted at me impatiently. I immediately let Hagrid go, straightened up and smoothed my dress. I smiled discreetly at him before running to catch up with Erica.

When we reached the queue for the carriages, Eliza and Cassandra were laughing hard. Something inside me squirmed and I frowned. Cassandra had become so close to my friends in only a couple of hours. I hated the way she didn't care that her robes where at least twice her size. I hated that she wasn't nervous about her first day of school. I especially hated how she was completely unaware of the students surrounding her, staring.

We reached the front of the line and a carriage pulled up in front of us pulled by two thestrals. I first saw them in third year and was immediately stunned by their beauty. Their slender charcoal bodies moved gracefully towards us and I reached out to feel the warmth of it's breath on my boney fingers. I turned to get into the carriage and noticed she was looking confusedly at me. I knew instantly.

"You don't see them do you?" I sneered. Finally a chance to get back to my place above her.

"See what?" Cassandra's reply was also slightly cold.

"How ironic" I laughed to myself, ignoring Erica, who was stunned by my snide comment. A death-eaters daughter who hadn't seen death, I chuckled. Eliza avoided eye contact, sitting in the corner with her arms crossed. I may have stepped over the line slightly, but the thought of those cold-hearted murderers lit a small fire inside of me.

The journey to the great hall was long and silent due to the new 'addition'.

We all jumped off the carriage at our arrival and ran inside to get good seats. Cassandra was called to stay back with the first years. How embarrassing, I smiled darkly.

Suddenly I collided with a large, skinny figure. I spun around and met his deep green eyes.

"Hey there stranger!" I smiled and hugged him. He hoisted me over his shoulder. I pounded his back, shrieking with laughter, "Put me down, Al!"
