The news spread like wildfire on that Thursday morning in February during Math class when the teacher from across the hallway ran into class in a frenzy. She shouted to Mr. Andrews, "You better turn on the news! Something bad happened to the president!" Mr. Andrews was then in a hurry to turn on the projector, look up the first news website that came to mind, pulled up the latest broadcast.

The news lady from the projector reported, "I've just got word that President Durin has been shot earlier this morning by a traitor in the CIA from Russia who has now been captured and taken in for questioning. Chrissy Durin has been declared dead since this morning."

Audible gasps were heard around the room from my peers hearing about the death of our beloved president. This event will only add fire to the ongoing battle that the U.S has been fighting against Russia.

Almost immediately Mr. Andrews turned off the broadcast noticing the effect it had on our class and then tried to divert our attention back to the current lesson were are learning. His efforts were futile since everyone was in their own conversation with each other about the tragedy.

The final bell of the day was loud enough to bring everyone out of their own world and start to pack up to go home. Upon walking out of my class, I was quick to see a flash of black hair running my way. It was my best friend since middle school, Layla.

"Ivy, Ivy, did you hear what happened to Mrs. Durin?" She practically all but shouted at me while making her way towards me.

"Yes, Layla I'm sure everyone heard what happened since all the teachers were frantic," I said in annoyance of her being naive.

"I know, it's so sad! She was such a good president by helping to fight for women's rights in our somehow backwards society," Layla said.

My thoughts went back to how even in 2037 the men in our society had reverted back to the sexist ways of the 1950's. For example with it being okay for putting women below men. Our war with Russia started back only two years ago and has since gotten out of control with the body count rising and neither side really winning.

"What do you think will happen now since she is gone?" Layla asked in a hushed voice. While at the same time bringing me out of my reverie while we were on our way the student parking lot.

"The government will probably send out more draft letters as a way to get back at Russia which means my step-dad will have to go back to work and stop using our house for his own convenience," I replied back.
