THE OTHERS

Chapter 2: Amber

I had always liked the headmaster. Even though he was huge and in his fifties, he never thought he was better than the rest, always solving whatever problems the unfortunate students in the school were facing. That day, he was different.

We waited impatiently outside his office, occasionally hearing his booming voice projecting around the corridors. Sam was sitting on a bench, swinging her stockinged feet. I looked around. I realised that the school looked much more massive than it usually did when the students were cooped up inside their classrooms like chickens. The twisting corridors and 30 feet tall ceilings looked mysterious, almost as if there was no one else in the building, no one else on the planet...

A few minutes later, the squeaky voice of the Master's receptionist called us in. We stood up immediately and headed towards the door. A girl about my age walked out of the room casually, beaming at me as if she hadn't just been scolded by the headmaster. Her black, wavy hair rested on her shoulders and bounced when she walked. Her collar and dress were perfect, as if she'd never worn her uniform before.  The girl looked very athletic, I realised, she might've been part of the hockey team.

"G'mornin'"she nodded her head towards me and Sam. "Name's Amber. You are?"
I stuttered, slightly distracted by the fact that she was so pale. She looked like Snow White with silver eyes. Very silver eyes.
"I'm Eli- I'm Eliza-" I took a deep breath, feeling very silly. "I'm Lizzie, nice to meet you."
Sam was staying behind me awkwardly, her messy blonde hair covering her face. I felt sorry for her. Sam probably weighed more than both me and Amber combined.
A voice called from inside the office. "Girls! The master is waiting for you."
I smiled at Amber and asked her if she was new at the school.
"Um- I've always been here, Lizzie. I just didn't know your name."
I stared at her, trying to remember if I'd seen her before. I hadn't.
