Rain fell relentlessly sloshing the bleak streets. A prickling sensation of being watched was vastly ignored as she walked briskly to her destination. Windows shook till the lights inside flickered on.
"Marcie, what are you doing here? Come inside, you're going to catch a cold" Simon wheezed, making room for her.
"Simon" Marceline said her voice hollow, "I can't do this anymore."
Hearing the tone of her voice, broke his heart. If she had said it with sadness or anger, it would have shown a little hope to get better. Yet the way she said it sounded so resigned.
"Marceline, everyone loses someone. Alive or dead, we cannot bend time and fate to our needs. We bend to theirs" He consoled, wrapping her up. She had no one left but him and a few more years she'll have no one. The person she loved the most had to sacrifice her wants and needs for her duties.
"Please, Simon. Let me be selfish for once, let me be the one that gets to be selfish. I want it all gone, I'll trade my kingd-"
"Hush now child, you're letting your sorrow speak." Placing his hand on her head, she fell into a temporary soundless sleep. Simon noticed the dark circles under eyes and loss of color as she slept, without knowing how close she was to the abyss. Had she finished her sentence, the deal would have tempted the unknown.
He walked over to a picture of his late wife, letting her know that someday their two planes would intersect. One more nod, then he walked to the center of the living room.
"Bargain." He said knowing that they were listening, "take away their memories, this poor girl has had centuries done to her. Please, I know she won't be able to survive another century alone. This will be the straw that breaks her."
The room grew colder and a shadow from the ground slithered in front of him.
"A deal for something this trivial?" It whispered, "A wizened old man like you, has what to offer me?"
"I'll give up my magic."
"Simon, your life span is not enough for this transaction."
"Please she's your daughter."
"Don't try to appeal to me using that approach," Hunson Abadeer sneered, King of the Nightosphere, made himself visible. "I came here personally, that in itself is enough"
Looking over at his daughter, he faltered.
He knew all the power he had cannot stop her demise.
Simon watched their interaction thoughtfully, "Then I'll offer you my mind."
King of the Nightosphere, weighed Simon's offer. This wizened old man had made a deal before, when he was a young ambitious inventor. He found an artifact that was a part of their world, the only mortal closest to deciphering it and creating ground breaking inventions that helped both planes. They recognized his greed for knowledge and tempted him with a longer lifespan to pursue his dreams. He became one of them from all the exposures.
And they were cruel to him, an eye for an eye to match his hunger.
A life for a life, they took his wife.
"Bargain accepted"
The effects of the bargain, were not specified. Yet it will affect their reincarnations.
