No One's POV

Kaito had come to realise that humans were a great danger to those like himself. After the death of his father who was killed by a hunter, his mother ~ who was human ~ managed to keep him secret from the others. But despite her best attempts she couldn't teach him what he needed. Often as it was, he'd mess up and reveal his true form whenever he'd get emotional.

And that is why they moved away to a cabin within the woods. The cabin wasn't big but it also wasn't small per-say, it was perfect for them and quite isolated from people. The path to the cabin was well hidden or well-hidden enough that it seems non-existent for those who don't know what to look for.

There he learned whatever he could from the books and story's his mother told, the history of her and his father and how they fell in love ~ which in all honesty, he chooses to ignore, but got a scolding for his efforts.

Despite his lack of proper schooling, he was intelligent and kept what his mother and what his late father had taught him to heart, and so, like any child, he experimented and learned what he could on his own.

Often, he'd explored the woods and gather plants and herbs for testing and investigate on animals. It was fun and exciting for him, especially since within the forest he could be free and let his ears and tail out. But every so often, his mother would remind him to be extra careful of the dangers of his true form.

Afterall his father was a powerful being and Kaito even if being a half wolf, was still his son and probably inherited the same power. What it was he would never know, because from what his father told his mother, his power will be either similar to his fathers ~ which was illusions ~ or it will be completely different, depending on his character.

So, they were cautious of the manifestation of his power.

When it did manifest, it was during when Chikage had gotten very sick. Kaito was only 7-8 at the time but was determined to heal his mother as much as he could.

He had gotten all the herbs he could find and made medicine for her through trial and error. Reading through all the books he's once read and read them a hundred times, then read them again a hundred times more.

"Don't worry Okaa-san... I'll save you."

But when it came to it, nothing had worked and his mother's condition continued to get worse, until one moment at his saddest hour when he prayed to any deity out there to help, did the power within him awoke.

In the flash of a brilliant white light, energy left Kaito and transferred to Chikage, healing her illness and restoring her to perfect health.

After this incident, Kaito had decided to become a healer and wanted to learn medicine. Chikage had supported him but made him swear to her that he would not use his power unwisely. Because she knew that surely if word got out about her son and his ability, not only would they try and hunt him down, they would do worse and use him for his unique magic ~ as her husband would call it.

While they did live peacefully in their home in the woods, Kaito knew his mother wanted to go and interact with people. He could see it in her eyes as time passed. So, he told her that he wanted more books, more paper for him to write on, and other equipment that he needed. From the look in her eyes, she knew exactly what he truly meant by those words and hugged him in a tight embrace.

"Okay Kai-chan, I'll be gone for a week or so, but I will write to you using Hana (One of their many doves) to stay in touch. Keep the house clean and please no explosive experiments inside."

"That was only one time Okaa-san!"

"And that one time destroyed our kitchen and dinner."
