Jade West stood on the edge of the 5th floor of Hollywood Arts. How did she get here? She didn't know, but she's here now, her eyes flickering across the city skyline before tilting her chin towards, hopefully, her fatal land pad. She closes her eyes and wipes away her tears.
She lets herself fall forward, towards the cement ground in the asphalt cafe. The place she ate every day. The place where she would eat alone and out of place as she watched her friends fade away before her very eyes. The fall was freeing. And Jade finally let herself smile, for the first time in awhile, and for the last time ever.
The smack against the pavement could've been heard from anyone that was in Sicowitz class, everyone jumped at the sudden thump, but after Sicowitz settled everyone down again almost all of them had forgotten about the strange noise.
"Hey, Dré. Do you know where Jade is?" Beck asks Andre, even though he was probably one of the people that would have the least idea of where Jade could possibly be.
"Uh- I don't know man. But this morning I got a pretty weird text from her... something like 'I'm sorry.' And that's it!" Andre exclaims and slaps his hand against his thigh.
"Huh... I got a text from her too, it just said 'I love you, I'm sorry for being myself'" Beck says and runs his hand through his perfect hair. But before either of the teenagers could question the odd texts the bell for 3rd period rang.
Cat Valentine bounced past the pair, as she had already packed up her notebooks.
The bloodcurdling scream was heard from all across the school, and in second a crowd had formed around Cat and her lifeless best friend. The blood trickling down the raven haired girls face, ears, neck and shoulders.
Beck pushed himself through the crowd and to Cat. He freezes at the scene and falls to his knees. His shaking hands caress Jades ivory cheek. "N-no." Is all he can muster from his dry throat. He falls onto his girlfriends chest and sobs into her clothes. The smell of Sandalwood with a hint of Vanilla engulfs him as he chokes on his tears. In the background he can hear Cat screaming "Wake up Jadey. Wake up! You can't be gone! You still have to be my roommate in college. You still have to marry Beck. You still have to get famous and perform in front of thousands in a sold out stadium. You can't be gone." Cat pleads with an urgency that Beck had never heard from her.
Lane runs out to the crowd and pushes himself through the students. Some were crying, some shaking, some with just a blank expression. Lane looks down and tries to distinguish what was happening. Becks body was blocking most of the scene and Cats red hair fell over the face of the student that was laying in the floor, but before he can ask what happened, Beck moves from his resting place on the victims chest, and he sees a lifeless Jade West. The blood now coating Cat and Beck, from head to toe. But neither of the students seemed to notice. They were caught up in pleading to their lifeless best friend.
Lane creates a boarder between Beck and Jade. Cat gets pulled away by Robbie.
Despite Lanes best efforts Beck pushes himself through the human made barricade and back to his deceased girlfriend. He clutches Jades cold hand with all his might and stares into her lifeless blue eyes. Only hours ago were they filled with life and love. Although there had been a shift in Jades personality, one that no one other then Beck would've been able to pick up on.
"Beckett, we need you to step away." Lane kneels next to the mourning boy. The crowd had been ushered away into the theater, since none of the students were in the right headspace to go back to class.
"No." Beck demands and strokes Jades hair, which was becoming tacky with her own blood.
"Beck.." Lane eases
"I said, No." Beck says and begins to sound like a toddler.
Lane slowly stands up and sits down on the lunch table. Dozens of Hollywood Arts staff gingerly scurrying around, calling police and parents.
"Beck, I need you to answer some questions, as you seem to know Jade the best." Lane says softly. Beck nods but his eyes never leave Jades. Beck looks longingly into them, hoping to remember what they look like forever, before softly wiping his hands across them and closing them. It almost made Beck smile, if he just looked at her face it could look like she was just asleep, but the nagging in his stomach reminded him that she wasn't.
"Beckett, do you have any idea why Jade would do this?" Lane asks and gets out his notepad, the police have arrived but are keeping their distance, as they know not to intrude on a mourning loved ones and their last moments with the victim.
"Her parents..." Beck squeaks out.
"She's gonna kill me if I tell you Lane, I don't know if I should- oh..." Beck begins to say before he glances at Jades bloody head.
Beck shakes his head and clears his throat. Lane leaning in tentatively.
"Her parents weren't really great. Th-they weren't ever really around I guess. But when they were, I know that Jades mom would verbally abuse her and sometimes physically assault her. And her dad... Jadey never told me directly but I think her dad did some things that fathers shouldn't do to their daughters" Beck mumbles, before sinking down to put Jades head in his lap, he strokes her raven black hair and lets what he said sink in.
"How do you know about her parents?" Lane asks and eyes the young women in his arms. He had no idea that Jade was going though that, he should've been softer on her, despite knowing that she would hate being pitied.
Flashback:
Beck smiles to himself before climbing up the side of Jades house to surprise her.
But right before he taps on the window outside Jades gothic room, he hears a scream. Beck ducks out of view but can see into Jades room.
"YOURE USELESS. WE ASK YOU TO DO SOMETHING AND YOU NEVER DO IT, YOU LAZY WHORE." Beck hears, his grip tightens around the bouquet of purple roses. Jades mom shoves Jade into her messy room, and into Becks line of vision. He can see the back of her head, her hair is pulled into a messy bun.
"Mom... you're drunk. I need you to calm down." Jade says with such a calm composure, it surprises Beck. Normally Jade was very erratic and you could never guess what she could do next.
"JADELYN I AM NOT DRUNK. NEVER SPEAK TO ME LIKE THAT."
(A/N ok I'm sick of calling Jades mom "Jades mom" so let's call her Alexis. Ay Dynasty reference)
Alexis slurs and crashes her fist against Jades perfect skin. Beck was frozen with horror, he expected Jade to fight back, as that was her mannerism but instead Jade grabs her mothers wrists and attempts to coax her onto her bed. But instead Alexis flips out and starts throwing things at Jade whilst screaming insults. Jade keeps quiet and is trying to ease her mom into a drunken sleep.
Beck clutches his free hand against his dry lips, he can't seem to move and his eyes are glued to the scene. He is entranced by Jade and how differently she was acting.
Jade finally gets her mother to drift into a sleep on her bedroom floor. Jade throws a blanket on her, before going to the full length mirror and begins fixing her hair and dabbing away at the cuts that were caused by one of the many objects that broke over her midnight dark hair.
As Beck is about to lightly tap on her window, Jades dad lumbers into her room
(A/N ok same thing with Jades mom, I'm gonna give Jades Dad a name cause I don't wanna keep saying Jades dad, so his name is Blake.) Beck can tell he's drunk by his demeanor, the way he eyes Jade.
Jade stops cold in her tracks, her eyes shifting from her fathers bloodshot eyes to her passed out mother.
Suddenly, out of no where, he shoves Jade on to the bed. Beck jumps at his sudden action, but he is still frozen, stuck to the roof tiles, waiting to see what's next. He doesn't think to record any of it to get Jade out of the toxic household.
Jades eyes well with tears, which surprises Beck because Jade West doesn't cry. And I mean ever.
He straddles her and begins rustling around to slither off his belt. Beck can hear Jade hissing "Daddy- Mother is right here. Please don-" but before she can finish Beck is already in the goths room. Throwing his fists anywhere, in any part of Blake's body.
-End of Flashback-
Beck starts shaking at the memory and tries to explain how he knew to Lane.
He falls back to Jades still body, her temperature quickly dropping, her lips, the lips that Beck had kissed so many times, are already turning blue.
The paramedics decide that it's time to take Jade to the morgue. It was to late to try to revive her, as her heart had stopped beating an hour before anyone had found her.
