There's no escape
I can't wait
I need a hit
Baby, give me it
You're dangerous
I'm lovin' it
- Toxic, Melanie Martinez.Lights flashed and men hollered. A low bass hummed through the club, weaving through the masses of sweating bodies that had gathered in front of the stage, their eyes fixed on the dancer who had entered. She was small, yet lean. Through the tightness of her dress, any man could tell of the strenuous exercise she had to do to become what stood in front of them. Her blonde hair hung in sausages, framing her face, and dark makeup lined her intense blue eyes which stared out into the audience.
She then locked eyes with him.
He was tall and lean. A mass of messy curls were ruffled upon his head, he wore a dark blue coat which draped across him, and though it were hot inside the club, he wore a scarf which clung tight to his neck. Her gaze became focused on him as she began her routine, it was though she could not rip her eyes away from the man's severe gaze. Her mind had succumbed to his intense stare. Hard, wide, cold unblinking eyes that seemed to intrude into her soul, she felt as though he knew exactly what her mind was thinking. And, however hard she tried, she couldn't pierce his thoughts like she did with so many men before.
The silence of his glare created a screen, separating the two of them from the wild murmur of the crowd. The connection, she thought, was undeniable. However, through the emptiness of his eyes, she saw no acknowledgement of this.
Pushing on through the dance routine she had performed many times before, she avoided the gaze of the stranger who had caught her attention, distancing herself from any thought which came to mind. The routine continued and other dancers entered, she spun on her heel as the dance required only to find that when she had completed a full circle, he had gone.
