Chapter V: Show Time
Hearing my mother squeal at the sight of me, made my insides curl and feel a bit squeamish. That was actually a good thing due to the fact that I was about to encounter a terrible bout of food poisoning as an excuse to postpone the wedding.
“My darling!” She threw her hands in the hair and made her way towards me. My father, fighting back tears behind her, pulled out a handkerchief and did his best to disguise wiping his tears.
Seeing that my father too, was very emotional for the wedding, broke my heart. If only he knew that I let him down. His daughter, his only daughter, never doing wrong, failed at being a responsible woman and was about to disappoint him on the day of his sweet daughters’ wedding day, all thanks to an unforgettable bachelorette party.
The sound of my mother trying to talk while sobbing brought me back to the moment. She did her best not to run on her makeup or stain my dress. I tried faking emotion but I honestly felt sick to my stomach.
“You look so beautiful. The day is finally here.” Her voice went up an octave with every word. I was actually surprised, she was never this dramatic.
A tight hand squeeze from my mother and a light kiss on my forehead from my father, made my insides begin to form sailor knots. To my luck, Sierra appeared out of nowhere, also with a blank and nervous look on her face, but acted as if everything were normal.
My father drove slowly and my mother tapped her fingers on clutch purse in her lap. Sierra sat next to me, fanning herself, trying to avoid beads of sweat to form on her face. That always happened when she was hiding something dark from me, such as bad news or nothing good.
Her eyes normally were a liquid blue but they appeared lost looking out the window and clearly avoiding mine. Her knuckles were turning white from the way she was gripping her bouquet with her other hand. She was sitting straight and her shoulders seemed tense. All her body expressions also made me feel very uneasy.
There was a moment where my parents had left my side once we arrived at the venue. That was my chance to ask Sierra what on Earth was going on.
“Did the chapel have anything good to tell?” I asked nervously, also beginning to grip the bouquet firmly. She simply looked out into the distance and nodded her head no.
“Sie, what’s wrong?” Her head snapped in my direction and her eyes were cold and fierce. She took in a deep breath and exhaled angrily.
“That bastard, he…” My father walking up behind me interrupted her and she shut her mouth. I was unable to hear the last part and the suspense was now killing me inside.
“Girls, we have to go. It’s show time.” My father beamed happily.
Sierra narrowed her eyes at me and gave me a slight nod. She stalked off ahead of me, leaving me alone with my father. He was indeed correct, it was show time.
“You know dad, I’m not feeling well.” I touched my forehead and feigned a pained expression on my face.
“It’s alright Ellie, it’s just wedding jitters. Once you see Adam waiting for you at the altar, that’ll all go away. I promise.” He tried reassuring me and linked my arm so we could make our way towards the entrance.
“Are you sure? Are you sure it’s not cold feet?” My voice shook and I hoped he wouldn’t notice it.
“I doubt that Ellie. You two are a great couple and he’s a good man.” His tone was serious yet soft at the same time.
“I guess so. But dad, I am serious, I don’t feel well. I think I’m going to be sick.” I placed my hand over my stomach, and frankly, I wasn’t feeling well at all.
