Chapter 2
It was weird leaving my house knowing I would be gone for 2 months. I still wasn't happy about this. Riding by myself in the yellow cab my parents called for me. It was pretty lonely. Quiet. It was the same for the plane ride too.
I stood at the airport and low and behold a blue pick-up truck came towards me. I don't know how I knew it but, I knew the truck was for me. It jerked and popped, it was crying to be cut off but it had no way to.
Finally the truck stopped right in front of me. Then a man with brown, short hair and a white cowboy hat came out of the truck."Hey Camille! Ready to go?"
"No, but I really don't have a choice do I?"
He laughed, "Not unless you wanna sleep here. It might be more comfortable at our house."
I climbed into the truck with all my stuff. I felt so awkward. I haven't seen or talked to them since Christmas. And Christmas
was short. They didn't really talk while they were there. I guess they felt out of place. We were in the truck for two hours and there was nothing but land. No houses, no stores, no malls, nail salons, movies. All I've seen so far are a few trees, grass and horses.
"I hope you don't mind," Uncle Wane said breaking the awkward silence. "you'll have to share a room with Claire."
"Sure, that's fine." I said with a smirk on my face.
After about 30 mins we pulled up to a two story house. It was red with white boarders on the top and bottom. The yard was complemented with all types of flowers. Red, blue, pink, orange, purple. I've never seen flowers so pretty. Climbing out of the car I see off to the distance a barn and horses.
"I hope I don't have to get near them." I say under my breath.
"What?" Uncle Wane asked.
"Nothing."
The screen door creaked opened and Aunt Lora came out.
"Camille!" She said with arms wide open.
"Hi Aunt Lora." I said trying to sound happy but, I think it came out awkward.
"Oh, you haven't aged a bit since the last time I saw you!" She said holding my face (on the bright side she isn't pinching it).
"Aunt Lora, you saw me during Christmas ...and Thanksgiving." I replied.
"I know but it feels like years." She looked at Uncle Wane and spoke. "Umm," she began. "Claire is out back if you wanna see her after you unpack."
I didn't say anything I just took my bags up to the room.
"3rd door on the left." Lora said.
I walked up to the pink room decorated with horses and flowers. Everything was perfect in her room. It was spotless. Just like her. I looked out her window to see her on a white horse. She was jumping over stuff. I walked out of her room into the back yard. The horse was whining and galloping.
"Woah! Woah girl." Claire said. "Good girl, good girl." She said patting the horse.
"Hey Camille!" She said climbing off her horse.
"Hi." I said back.
"I'm so glad you are here!" She said coming up to me giving me a hug. She finally let go and kept her hand on my shoulders. "I can't wait to catch up with you!"
Oh but I could I thought to myself.
