"Wow," You start, looking around the gym. "This place is much bigger than ours. Is this how you know you've made it? When you get a big gym all to yourself?" You look over at Tsukishima, directing the question to him. He frowns, looking around the building as well.
"How am I supposed to know? Doesn't look like that setter is here. Looks like you came for nothing. How disappointing, now you get to go home." He snickers, leaving you at the bench and ignoring your rather loud protests.
"Tsukishima-Chan-" "(Y/N) please. Tsukishima gets confusing." "Ah, (Y/N)-Chan, why did you come with us? I thought you were with the girls team?" Kiyoko questions as you settle down on the bench next to her.
"I quit. We were barely practicing and it was starting to get boring. I was already at home more than practice so leaving officially didn't make a whole lot of difference. I started to miss it though so I bribed Kei to let me come." You explain simply. Both of you wince watching Hinata miss a second practice serve.
"You know, if you want you can step in as a temporary coach. You have enough experience with volleyball to pass off as one." Her proposal makes you laugh quietly. You turn your attention back to your taller, younger brother on the court. "Kei would hate that. It's tempting but a high school student acting as a coach? And a second-year no less? I don't know how well that'd blow over. But it is tempting. Tanaka wasn't kidding when he said those two first-years are interesting."
"What do you think, Takeda-Sensei?" Both of you girls look over at the teacher. He startles a little at Kiyoko's question and tenses, but eases with a nervous laugh.
"I agree, it would raise a few eyebrows to have a second-year student act as a coach, even if temporary. If you'd like, officially you could attend practices just to support your brother and friends. Unofficially, it would be nice to have an experienced eye watching over their practices." "Thank you, Take-Sensei!"

"(Y/N)-Chan, what do you make of them?" Daichi asks during time-out. All of you look over at the team on the other side of the court.
"They're trouble, that's for sure. They're all good individually. Even without their captain and main setter, there's not many holes in their lineup that you could take advantage of. What happened to their setter any-" You get interrupted mid-sentence by a series of screaming. It doesn't take long to find the cause.
"How annoying." You and Tanaka both express your sentiments, watching Oikawa strut into the gym like he owns the place. "Who does this guy think he is?" Your eyes narrow at him. He catches you eye and winks, causing you to frown and mutter a quiet "ick."
"Do me a favor and wipe that stupid grin off his face. It makes me sick." "You're not the one who has to look at it up close." "That's enough, you two."
Karasuno wins in the end, but you have a feeling that, if Oikawa were present from the beginning, that wouldn't be the case. You've been in volleyball for a long time, both playing it yourself and watching others play, but still his serve sent chills down your spine. He's a slimy guy for sure, taking every chance he can get to call out to you and wink at you from the court, even somehow getting your name and 'dedicating' a serve to you. But he's something else entirely. He's not a genius like Kageyama, but he's pretty damn close.
"I don't think I want to come to another match if it's against Seijo. That guy gives me the creeps. On one hand, he's way to "Oh look at me, I'm pretty and flirty, fall in love with me." and on the other, he's an absolute monster. I feel like my arms would break if I tried to receive one of those serves."
"You break my heart, Tsukki-Chan. And here I was hoping you'd get to watch me crush my dear junior and your big brother in an official match." Tsukishima could practically feel the nerves in your body start to snap. He doesn't know which side to pick, yours against this way-too-flirty guy or Oikawa's for getting on your nerves.
"He's my little brother, you-" "(Y/N)." Daichi cuts you off with a stern look that reminds you way too much of a dad look. You don't like it, but you shut up.
You feel a little overshadowed when the two weirdo first-years step forward, looking like a couple of drama protagonists. "We'll beat you next time."

A/N: lmao let's be real, I never intended to come back to wattpad but I put my stuff on tumblr and tumblr writers find their stuff on here without their permission a lot so yeah. This is a re-write so it's not going to be exactly the same and it is much more of a slow burn that it originally was.
