I was wearing a white dazzling wedding dress with a lavender bouquet on my hand. I was alone in the room, waiting for the moment they call me up. It was my wedding day, the moment i have been waiting for, the moment i will be spending my whole life with somebody who cared about me. But life isn't fair, i wasn't any close to being happy. I was far away from happiness yet i'm glad that i could protect the one i love even if i couldn't be by his side. I look at myself in the mirror, i knew i was about to tear up but i hold it back and instead i gave a smile to myself.
"Everything will be fine. He will be safe. He will be happy without me. He will find someone much more better than me, someone who can be by his side no matter what happen. It's for the bes-"
A tear slipped out of my eye. I looked down, avoiding eye contact with my own refection as i tried to held myself from crying. I clenched my fist trying to be strong as i mutter reassuring words to myself. Then, a warm hand held onto my clenched fists. I look up to see the person whom i will be married to in any minutes now. He looked at me and gave a crooked smile as he wiped the tears that escaped my eyes with his thumb.
I'm such a mess, i shouldn't show him i was tearing up. Not on our big day. I tried thinking of an excuse to tell him why i was crying. He looked at me with sad eyes as he wrapped his arms around me. I knew i couldn't find any excuses for my tears as i started to weep in his embrace. He patted my back to calm me down as he mutters words that everything will be alright. After a few moment, he looked at me with both thumbs wiping my tears and i stopped crying. I smiled at him, feeling sorry for him. He had to see his bride tearing up on his wedding day and the tears were not happy tears but rueful tears.
"I'm sorry for acting like this, Liam. Don't worry, i can do this."
I assured him with a smile. He smiled in return as he held my face, and looked me in the eyes. Slowly, he came closer towards me as he looks at my lips and back to my eyes. I knew what he was asking for. He leaned down slowly to meet my lips as if still asking for permission to kiss me. He kissed me slowly and passionately as i returned the favor. Even though we kissed, deep down i knew that kiss can't replace my feeling towards him and he knew it too. He looked at me in the eyes as our lips parted. After a moment, he smiled sincerely.
"Promise me in our next life, you'll be mine okay?"
He then gave me one last kiss on my forehead before letting me go. I could see shadows of sadness in his grey eyes. The eyes that always so cheerful were now covered with grey clouds.
"You have to go. They planned to kill him right after we say our vows in our wedding ceremony."
My eyes widened at his words, stunned.
"But, Father promised that he wouldn't."
"I know but they are still planning on it. That's why they planned to send us away, out of the states so you wouldn't hear the news."
"How would you know all of this?"
I asked, still not wanting to accept the truth. I never felt so betrayed in my entire life. Suspicion grew on me. What if he was lying but the person in front of me won't ever lie to me. We've been together since little. I knew him like the back of my hand and i could always depend on him. He was like my brother who will always protect me no matter what. But, looking at him now, i knew he was hiding something from me. He walked back and forth as he raked his brown hair, still thinking a way to form his words.
"I-I was a part of it Carmel."
He confessed, hesitating. My eyes widened as i took a step back from him. He was a part of this? Did he mean, he agreed to kill him? Somehow, i feel my heart shattered in a million pieces. My own family back-stabbed me. How could they? So, all of my effort was worthless. This beautiful dress i'm wearing, my appearance, this wedding, was all for nothing? I should have known.
