I walk out of my room in a daze. Everyone is running around and yelling. I brush my way into the middle of the commotion and see this girl. Demetrius runs over to me and starts to yell at me.

"Where the fuck have you been!!??!" She grabs my wrist harshly and pulls me into the "kitchen". "Everyone's gone mad!" I release myself from her grasp and set my hands gently on her shoulders.

"Breathe, honey. Relax and try to tell me what happened." I try to calm her down as best as possible, but Demetrius keeps going on about how 'everyone's gone mad', and 'how could they?!?'. I finally am able to calm her down and I get the main points of what is going on. Apparently theirs a girl who can get past all of our abilities, and Sphinx has brought her in. I tell her to go out for a smoke to calm her down. She agrees and opens her wings, but before she leaves she gives me a quick peck on the lips.

As soon as she's gone, I quickly go to Sphinx's room and give a small rap on the door. Sphinx appears a moment later and immediately swoops me into the room. I give a quick glance around their room and see everything as it always is, organized and neat, except for the small girl lying on a cot in the corner. She's asleep when I approach her, but not for long. Her eyes shoot open and she quickly scoots to the far back of the cot. She breathes heavily.

"oh! i'm sorry!" I say quickly and take a step back. "I thought you were asleep." She catches her breath and makes her way back to the middle of the cot. She sits cross legged and smiles sadly up at me. I begin to hover and I make a way around her, studying, looking for any signs of a threat. She carries no guns, knives, or any weapons. I hover over to Sphinx and ask, "What has she been thinking?" I hear them sigh in disappointment before saying,

"Nothing of harm, but only of peace." I place my feet back on the ground and make my way back to the girl. I sit on the cot and sit cross legged beside her, looking at her. "Hello." I say and i give her a small, harmless smile. "What is your name?" Her tensed shoulders and fear behind her eyes disappears and she starts to become comfortable with me.

"Rebecca. And you?" She starts to smile and rock where she sits.

"Maverick. Why are you here?" I need answers so I can calm Demetrius down, that's all I think about now. I want peace for my wife.

"This bitch gave me a dare." She looks angrily away and crosses her arms. I'm taken aback by her cussing. I thought she was ten!

"How old are you?"

"16?"

"Oh geez! I thought you were ten! I apologize! Continue." I sputter and nervously laugh rubbing the back of my head and messing up my hair. She looks a little upset, but mostly excited. Why did she look excited? I have no idea. She smiled and looked down, but continued.

"There is this really mean girl who goes to the same school as me and she likes to bully me." I stare wide-eyed at her. Not intentionally, but how could someone bully her? She looked perfectly fine for her age. "She always like to play truth or dare with me..." Rebecca trails off. I still don't see the problem in this, and this is when Oliver approaches.

"I saw the girl, and so did Sphinx. We think she was crazy. She started saying that Rebecca was going to "get it" when she saw her again. We can't let her go back."

"We have to! You think we can just let her stay here?!?! are YOU crazy?! She's missing! She has to go back or the police are going to start flocking here! 'lay low'? wasn't that your plan?" What was he thinking?! She couldn't stay here! We would be in danger and so would she. We have to let her go back to her parents.

"Don't worry. No body knows i'm gone." Rebecca pipes up. "I have seven other siblings and my step dad hated me, and my moms dead, so..." Rebecca looks at the cot again with a smile plastered onto her face, tears threatening to leave her eyes. She was trying to act strong, but an act was all it was. I sighed, looking at her with saddened eyes as well. I snagged my gaze back on Oliver and hovered over to him.

"She can stay, until the third police swarm comes here. I don't want to put anymore strain on Sphinx then the usual." I said. I hovered past him, but before i left i whispered into his ear, "Remember what E would want."

I know it was wrong to say that, but it was necessary. Oliver keeps twisting what E would've wanted. E was the most caring person I have ever known. They brought all of us in and fought for us, fought our battles for us when we were so weak and we could do nothing. E gave their life for us, and i don't want everything they wanted to go down the drain because of this girl. This really has nothing to do with Rebecca. I would love to have another member of our misfit crew, but I would think her parents would notice an empty room, or bed, or spot on the floor, whatever she had. From what she had said, it seemed as if they didn't want her at their house, and the school didn't even know she existed, but still, we need rules to keep everything in place. I hated being the responsible one, but if this girl is the downfall to our three years of  work, then someone has to do something. I do not want to find a more broken down building and start from scratch. I've almost made it to the point of calling this place home.

I hover out into the open area we call the commons and spot Demetrius up on the roof. I hover up to her effortlessly and sit next to her. She doesn't move to look at me, she only plops her head onto my should and lets out one heart-wrenching sob, then falls asleep. I sigh and look up at the sky and see some stars twinkling down on us, and carefully lay down on the roof with Demetrius in my arms.
