What started out as a simple idea of writing about a dancer and the way she moved gradually turned into a dance competition and a little story behind why the song was chosen. I wrote this back in 2019 on August 18th, and at first it was based off of Halsey's song "Without You", but once I heard Lea's song, I immediately knew it was the perfect one for my short story. I wanted emotional, and while Halsey's is definitely that, it wasn't the kind of emotional I was going for in that moment. Though I may possibly write something off of Halsey's song down the road, I don't know yet. Anyway, please enjoy, comment, and vote if you like it.

It was the annual high school dance competition and three young women were about to perform a dance to "Run to You" by Lea Michele – their own choreography, of course. They were already dressed in their outfits: flowy, short-sleeved white dresses that sparkled in the light to represent the feelings the song emanated, and on their feet they wore white ballet slippers to help them easily deliver their desired dance moves. Their hair was let down to give off the impression of beauty and elegance, which is what they craved for their dance to look like as well.
As the lights slowly dimmed and the roar of the crowd quieted down, the three dancers made their way onto the stage and took their places. They seized the moment to compose themselves, wanting to display raw emotion through their choreography. The music started up and three lights emitted from overhead, illuminating each of the dancers.
Once the introduction to the song started, they deliberately took their time to get into the flow of their choreography. The crowd watched on in utter silence, anticipating what was to come. As the chorus neared, their gentle swaying became quicker and more graceful – as they hoped it would be from months of practice. Their passion for dancing drove them to perfection. Each dancer put their all into the dance, exhibiting raw emotion that washed sadness over the crowd like a tidal wave. The stage was their little bubble of solitude where they could be one with the music – even if they were surrounded by a hundred or so people. The lyrics combined with the dance were powerful and had every single person in the crowd watching intensely, some even on the edge of their seats.
The feelings the dancers publicized in their dance moves and expressions were ones of grief and great sorrow. What some would think an act, each dancer knew was real for they were sisters who had experienced the agony of losing their mother only the night before. This song was their dedication to her before and after her death, and as they made their synced leaps into non-existent arms, their tears raced down their cheeks, spoiling their well-done makeup. Throughout the remainder of the song they kept their focus on retaining what little composure they still had. They embodied Lea's lyrics flawlessly, and before the song could even fully end, the crowd was on their feet. Cries of encores and sadness rumbled throughout the theater for not one person was without tears. No words needed to be said at that very moment for the judges – and the crowd – had already chosen a winner for the annual high school dance competition.

I hope throughout reading this you could really pick up on the emotions everyone was feeling. I really tried to convey the atmosphere in the theater as well as possible with the little words I used. Thank you so much for reading!
Have a blessed day<3
