No one ever said Zerxes was a patient person. He could feel parts of his mind fighting against itself, he knew these people. Why was he fighting against people he knew then? It was something he had been questioning the whole time, daggers clenched in his fist as he stared down a group that kept calling his name. There's a moment where he wants to question why their fighting people he calls friends, family, but then it's snatched away, even as he's turning towards Lord Herrick the question on his tongue.

He receives a growled, "You're either with me or against me." and Zerxes' has never been one for ultimatums. It was possibly why he stayed back even as the fighting resumed. His gut was screaming at him that something wasn't right, but the parts of his mind were saying that this was his friend, why should he not trust him?

He finds his answer a few moments later, as he catches sight of the elf using his magic against the female tiefling and something in his mind shouts at him, this is wrong. It takes a second to blink and shake his head, almost like he's shaking off a cover of some sort and when he looks back up. His jaw clenches so hard, he swears he can taste blood. That also could have just been the many scratches across his face and a split lip.

Everything is back to being a different light, and he finds he doesn't like the way it's portrayed.

He's across the room in what feels like a few steps, fist clenched and then Herrick is spirling to the ground. Zerxes is unsure of the looks he's receiving, but he does know one thing. The first, "Guess that means I'm against you." He almost wants to laugh at the way the elf's face twists.

Then he's grasping him by the collar and pressing him back against the nearest wall.

"Touch her again" He gestures towards Zephyr, who he can still hear coughing behind him. "and I'll rip your heart out through your fucking mouth." There's a moment of silence and then Zerxes is letting go as flames seem to burst from nowhere. He glances up from where he turned his face to avoid the heat, to find the elf sorcerer gone. Good.

He'd hate to murder someone in front of her.
