Elzie opened her eyes and sat up after a nightmare. Her nightmare had her, the king and her parents. It was horrible! She turned towards her parents and saw her mother and father on the other side of the room sleeping calmly on the floor. She sighed and rolled over to try and sleep. She laied on the floor, staring at the wall for an hour before finally drifting off the sleep. In the morning the “town meeting” started early. Her parents gave her potion of food for the morning and rushed her into her hiding place in the closet. The king didn't like small girls, whenever he saw them he would have his guards put them in the dungeon or throw them into the void. The “Town Meeting” wasn't a meeting at all, it was when the king would pick four or more people to throw into the void.
He was a horrible leader and an ever worse husband. Once he found out that his wife was cheating on him he threw her into the void and he didn't even cry and wasn't even upset. Elzie stayed in the hiding place until her father came home. She rushed out to give him a hug. He had been crying. She looked at the door expectantly for her mother but she didn't come. Her father explained that the king found out about her and he threw her into the void. She began crying then said “Father? What's going to happen to me? Will I be thrown into the void?” She asked wiping a tear off her face. “I have a plan.” Her father said then continued “I won't let anyone hurt you.” He said hugging her.
She was a little confused by what was going on but she was ready to do whatever it took to save her life and maybe even her fathers. Her father explained the plan to her carefully. He had told her that she had to sneak into the guard island and get the captain's daughter without getting caught. She accepted even though she was risking her life. She packed her potion of food for the next three days, even though it was very little and would probably only last one and half days since she was taking a well fed, well clothed, daughter of the captain of kings guard and for all she knew she was probably a snob and a brat.
Elzie also packed a couple pairs of clothes and other important things. Her father offered his crossbow that folded into a handheld grip and his favorite knife that was normally used for cutting the little meat they got from the king's greedy hands. She was ready to go to the guards island but she was very tired so she rested for the night. She slept through the meeting the next day. Her father arrived right after she had sat up. He gave her a kiss on her forehead and sent her off.
She began to walk along the sides of many small shed like buildings that were what they used for houses. She had never been outside but even growing up she hated it. When she couldn't hide behind buildings anymore she had to run for it. She turned into her hellhound for and ran to the other side of the street that wasn't really a street because it was just a path of mud and rocks that made her paws dirty. As soon as she got the the building she turned back to her original state. She was surprised to have stayed in that form for so long. She always either changed after two seconds o it took ten minutes for her to change back into a human.
She saw the bridge only a couple houses away but there were guards standing at either side. She thought for a moment before making a plan. She turned back into her hellhound form and ran past the guards distracting them. She ran around a couple buildings making sure she didn't lose any of them. She ran right to the edge of the island and she was too close to turn. She went for her chance and jumped. She turned to her side to avoid breaking any bones. The guards stopped to close and fell into the void. She looked down watching the guards falling. She was horrified. This is what the king did to her mother?!? She thought, turning back into a human and wiping a tear from her eye. She ran back across the bridge and quietly snuck into the captains room.
