"No pulse", Curtis said. My hands were shaking I couldn't take it. We killed him.

                                                               Earlier That Month

"HARRIET!", my mum screamed at the top of her lungs. It's my first day of High school and I am going to be late. I try to just put my hair in a low bun. I quickly get changed into a cute skirt and a white t-shirt. I am quickly surrounded by the smell of eggs and bacon. Mum always make me this for my first day of school. Normally I'm not a popular girl. I'm just a nerd who has no friends but things will change this year. Mum, dad and myself moved from London to America for dad's work. So i'm starting out fresh and I have the extra advantage of having an 'accent' this year.  With my bag packed and my stomach full I head outside. It's a five minute walk to the bus stop.  A crowd of people are already waiting in-front of the bus about to get on. I change my walk into a little jog because there's no way I'm missing the bus. I make It just in time to get on the bus. However everyone is already seated. I know this will decided who I am friends with for the rest of the year.  Theirs only two seats left one at the front and one at the back. Normally I'd go for the one at the front but things are changing for me. I take my seat out the back.  Next to me is this really pretty girl with gorgeous red hair and black glasses that only she could pull off. "Jade", she says. Even her name is pretty, I introduce myself without stuttering and was actually able to have a conversation without saying anything school related.  I think I made my first friend in like forever. It turns out that jade is part of the 'popular group' at school and well she invited me to hang out with her at lunch.

Our school is massive it looks like it was built ages ago but I love it. The grass is freshly mowed and the flowers in the garden are blooming. I think I might like it here. As soon as I walk in I head straight to the reception to collect my timetable. First thing to start of the day is homeroom. Getting around our school is like getting around a maze. After a solid 5 minutes of searching for the room I found it. When I entered I felt everyone stare a me. Newbies must be rare here. I scanned through the room to see if I could see anyone familiar and that's when I saw him. His hair was golden blond and his eyes as  blue as the sea. I don't know how long I was frozen for until jade pulled me to the side. "First day and you've got a crush on Adrian, typical", she said. All I could think about was his name Adrian, Adrian, Adrian. Most of my periods so far I've had jade in my class and its been great. She's one of the nicest people I've ever met. Jade kept her word about lunch so I sat with her and her friends and Adrian happened to be one of them. There was only one other girl Alannah. She was equally as nice as jade but seemed a little more boy obsessed. Then there was two more boys Curtis and Jonah who both had curly brown hair. It was easy to tell Adrian was the most popular person at this school. Every girl could be caught staring at him myself included. After getting caught up on all of the relationship gossip about how Alannah and Jonah are a thing and Jade and Curtis are dating and have been for the past month. All I could think of was  that Adrian was single and has been ever since his ex-girlfriend Mia was caught making out with his ex-bestfriend Tobias at the schools last football match.

For the first time today I don't have jade in my class because I'm doing AP Biology. However Adrian is in it. When I enter he waves me over to sit next to him. My stomach starts to tingle. I've only ever felt this once before whenever I was near a boy named Mitchell. I take my seat next to him. "The person you are next to now is your partner for the rest of the year", the teacher exclaimed. "Looks like you're stuck we me", Adrian said. I couldn't make out a word so I gave him an over done smile. I could tell that every other girl in the class was jealous of me. Because they weren't looking at me like I was a nerd, they were look at me like I was the person they wanted to be. I knew that look to much it was how I looked at abby at my old school. Adrian was perfect in every way he was smart, funny, athletic and caring. Throughout the whole class he made sure that I was okay and was actually interested in getting to know me. This is going to be the best year of my life. After one of the best first days of school ever I went home to be greeted by my mums loving arms and some freshly made chocolate chip cookies. I tell her everything. Everything except for how I am totally head over heals for Adrian.

I think I sat next to the right person on the bus.
