Never have I thought about the divisions of the city until now. People, using massive destruction as an excuse to achieve personal goals. Opportunistic. I'd forgive that if there was any benefit to such selfishness during a Skullgirl attack. That very division would end with all of us losing, as I assume the Skullgirl wishes to happen.
Basic strategy really. Taking advantage of the chaos to achieve victory was true prior to this beast and still is a factor now.
Right now we had hidden away in a motel. Very disgusting. Unbecoming of a Knight to have these ladies sleep amongst filth, but not many options remained. I still have yet to contact Parasoul about sleeping arrangements, given that Squigly adds some problems.
Right now, my injuries have recovered thanks to Percival, yet I still feel sore from battle. Sitting on a bed that could be considered, how you say, a slab of concrete. I can't but feel like I am not relying on my own strength. She was with Magnus before me. Many wars. Many battles. That meant experience that no newcomer would ever have, just being used as some 'training wheels' as some refer it to.
Twice now, when a fight counted, I lost. Twice when met with some unspeakable evil, be it the wretches of Lab Zero to a hired goon of the Mafia...lost. I know I ignored it up until now, but...this doubt is growing stronger in my mind. Would I beat the Skullgirl?
"Uh...hey Frenchie, you good?" That was Nadia sticking her head in the door way. Literally.
"Erm, could you simply have your head attached?"
"Ha! Why? I'm the only person allowed to LOSE it," Her puns have gotten worse lately. I am not familiar with this style of comedy that she seems to abuse with every breath. "But there is another reason. That 'wheel pain' has been sitting at the balcony for an hour. If it's not that Filia girl, she uh lashes out a bit. And by a bit, I mean there is a reason I am carrying my head,"
Violent. Like an animal. For being treated as such, it was the unfortunate outcome. Now only Filia could actually breach her supposed 'space', the only person she really trusts.
"Where is Filia now?"
"She is one of the few that doesn't stand out, so she is on a food run. Hopefully that hairball doesn't blow his cover. But enough about THAT...I wanted to see if you could get through to her,"
"But you said-"
"Yeah. Me and Squiggles McBooty already tried," I cringed at her nickname for Squigly. Nadia sure is crude when it comes to referring to people. I can't imagine what sort of behavior she has around enemies.
Yet that did seem to align with something I had in mind. Filia clearly has a history with Carol. How would she react to somebody like me; I have aided her freedom. She did send me to where I met the undead cat. There must be some level of trust to even gaze in my general direction.
"...I may try to speak with the girl. But...I have no idea how she'll react," I gulped a little as I stood up to head to the bigger kitchen area. Well...bigger being relative.
In reality my room was close to a small space that held a kitchenette. A small round table was held in the middle with a few adjacent seats, each having wood chipped. The wallpaper was just as rotten, peeling in some areas. The kitchen itself was rusting in some areas that were metal; we'd avoid that, at the least the ones who are technically amongst the living.
Squigly was currently filling one of the chairs, trying to read something. It seemed like a history textbook. Odd choice, but being dead for most of recent events, she must want to catch up and be prepared for what's ahead. Funny how they can publish the text so quickly before another Skullgirl attacks.
