Gotham city has always had a reputation. It's known for it's extremely high crime rate, among other things. A lot of its residents called it hell. And it was. Gangs roamed the streets at every corner, unknown dangers lurked in alleyways. Gotham was a mess that needed to be cleaned up, and no one knew this better than Bruce Wayne.
There were many ways people tend to use when describing Bruce: play boy billionaire philanthropis. And those are mostly true. But there was another side to him that only those closest to him knew. Bruce Wayne is the Batman. In the dead of night, he dawns the cowl and hunts down the criminal scum that plague his city. Why does he do it? He does it because, it's thrilling. He does it so the people of his city can sleep peacefully. He does it so no one would have to endure what he did. He does it to put his mind at ease. He does it because of what happened to his parents in that alleyway, all those years ago.
Bruce was only nine when his parents were shot in front him. They had all seen a movie together, and decided to take a short cut through a dark alleyway to get home. Little did they know that they'd never get back the mansion. A thug cornered them, and demanded their valuables. Bruce's father Thomas tried to fight. He was shot in the chest. Then the thug trained his gun on Martha, Bruce's mother. He watched her fall to the ground, clutching her stomach where she was shot. Bruce would've been killed too, but police sirens scared the crook off.
Bruce would later travel the world, training in many different forms of hand to hand combat, as well as learning how to invent, and technical engineering. All of this so he could finally cleanse the city of the filth that took his parents that night.
So why does he do this? He does it because he's the Batman. And this...this is the story of how the Batman was born, and how he died.
