*Chapter One*
---Last Friday: Chemistry lab---
San was bringing back the cylinders filled with chemicals and I immediately stopped humming "Bad Blood" by Taylor Swift. San was famous for creating disaster during chemistry labs. Our teacher last year even joked that one day she was going to burn the whole school down after she spilled acid all over my notebook that burned little holes right through all the pages and ruined my perfect chem notes (I still scored A+ on the exam nonetheless). Now I was scared to death while San carelessly made her way back to our table, because something dangerous was damned to happen.
"Madd! I'm back!" San said excitedly while skipping towards me.
What is that crazy girl thinking? Jumping around with explosive chemicals in her hand?! I thought.
"Hold it right there. I will come and get you!" I yelled for her to stop, feeling like a firefighter who was about to save a poor cat from a building on fire.
In an instant, I reached San with the speed of lightening and took the cylinders from her hands. "Phew," now everyone's safe. I heaved a sigh of relief when I placed the cylinders safely on the table. Maybe today's lab is going to be peaceful after all.
For ten happy minutes from when I rescued the chemicals from San, everything was at peace. Then our chemistry teacher Mr. Brown asked us to come around the front table halfway through our lab to watch him perform an experiment of magnesium reacting with water.
Being a knowledge seeker I was, I had already watched a few videos of this experiment on YouTube during the weekends when I was previewing my chemistry lessons, so I already knew what was going to happen. But since the whole class quickly gathered around the experiment table, I had to join the crowd reluctantly. I was ready to watch the experiment with a blank mind when I saw Brandon in the corner of my eye approaching the table from the left, so I quickly dragged Madd with me to go near him.
I knew Brandon ever since grade four when he moved to the same street of where I live. He is tall, cute, smart and nice, and also athletic too. I don't have a huge crush on him because I put most of my focus on my school work. San always nags me about confessing to Bran about my feelings but I just don't think that there is a need for a relationship at the moment, if you get what I mean.
Anyway, since I knew the lab by heart, my focus drifted onto Brandon. He was wearing his usual black v-neck shirt and a pair of comfortable jeans. His hair was not neatly styled but was unruly to an extent of cuteness. Okay, I may sound like I was openly staring at him, but trust me, I only threw a few glances.
Recently, I have been feeling that my crush on Brandon has been disappearing. I no longer get the butterflies when I talk to him, and I stop searching for him in the crowd every time we have a mass assembly. Even though I have known Brandon since grade 9 and have had a crush on him on and off (but mostly off), our relationship does not extend beyond friends. As I am in grade 11 now the beginning of school year, my life is going to get very busy so I have decided to put Brandon aside and as a friend for the better.
"Oh my god! He looks so hot today!" San squeaked beside me, bringing my mind back to reality. I followed her gaze and my eyes landed on a guy wearing Adidas sneakers, well-fitted jeans and a street-styled T-shirt.
"Really, San? Open up your eyes, that's Aaron Roshton. And if my memory serves me correct from last week when he dumped a girl, I think he's a jerk?" I whispered to San, my eyebrows frowning.
"Yeah, yeah, I know..but he is so cute!" San replied.
"Whatever." I replied, dismissing San's sudden interest in Aaron as a one-time thing that comes at the bottom of my priority list.
Little did I know, this chemistry class would be the start of a very long story that I have yet to tell.
