Chapter 3

I woke up in the hospital, to muttering voices.

Well, I didn't wake up, I was just conscious again. I could smell and hear - but sadly not move or open my eyes.

Just as well.

The smell of disinfectant was horrible, I have always hated hospitals. And it was - unfortunately - obvious that I was in a hospital.

"I cannot believe it! How could this happen? She was one of the best drivers I have ever known! How could she crash into a tree? That is so surreal.", I heard a familiar, light voice snapping.

"She's so young. She has so many parties to throw, so many boys to date, so much fun to have. She's way too young to d-", the second person cried but was cut off by a third voice.

The part with 'so many boys to date' in this speech gave me shivers.

"Ssh! Liz, calm down! Ari will survive this. You know that people being in a coma can hear you, don't you? She can probably hear us."

The 3 girls' voices were so, so familiar. Who were they? What did they do here? Who was Ari? Who was in a coma? I?

I put so much effort to open my eyes, I couldn't explain. It was the same effort you needed to have for running dozen of laps.

Yet, I could open my eyes and look at the trio. Three wonderfully shaped, beautiful girls were sitting on a couch.

And with beautiful, I don't mean cute. I mean really, really handsome girls.

As soon as I had a glimpse at them, I remembered. It felt like the lost puzzle piece was found.

Those 3 girls were my best friends. Or weren't they?

Seeing how they were worried about me, they had to be them.

"Liz, Daphne! Look!", exclaimed the girl on the right, while pointing at me. She has been the one being calm and collected, trying to motivate the others; however she was anything but calm right now.

"June, what the h-", the others turned their heads to my direction and their mouths dropped open.

I surveyed them properly while they were shocked.

Liz was the blonde girl on the left. She looked like an angel with her blonde, curly and long hair. Her lovely deep blue eyes completed that look. Shock was in her face right now, a positive shock. Liz seemed like she forgot about herself crying earlier.

The girl in the middle had to be Daphne. Her light brown hair was in a messy bun. But I knew she had silky hair. Everyone knew.

And everyone at school adored her hair and everyone wanted to have her perfect shaped, layered haircut. All of us visited the same hairdresser, but her hair always looked much better than ours.

We weren't jealous, no. But it was something we could see and not understand.

Her jade-green eyes had little flecks of the same colour as her hair, light brown - absolutely gorgeous and unusual.

The third person, June, sat right.

She was the most beautiful human being I ever had seen.

Her auburn hair was extremely curled and Liz's hair for example was curly as well, but not even comparable to June's hair.

Some people don't like redheads, but I could bet with anyone they'd change their mind just after having a look at June.

With her big, hazel eyes and her freckles, June looked innocent but feisty at the same time.

Now, her corkscrew curls were hanging all around her shoulders.

She had a huge smile on her face, the one she always had when she saw me. She was showing me two perfect rows of white teeth.

"ARI!", they yelled in unison, after several moments of awkward silence.

I flinched and shut my eyes for a second. I wasn't used to people talking that loud yet.

"We scared her.", Daphne stated indignantly.

"I am getting a doctor!", Liz announced and just as she was leaving the room, Daphne decided to accompany her.

June stood up and walked slowly to my bed.

"Aria.", she sat down on the egde whilst her smile faded. She took my hand. Her big, hazel eyes were symbols of sadness right now.

"I'm so, so sorry. I.. I still can't believe this all happened.."

She wouldn't look me in the eye. For a moment I was very sad. I was sorry this all had happened but in the other minute, I felt stupid for that thought.

Seriously? Chloe was the one, who had driven me into this situation. Bitch.

Feeling the knot in my throat fade, I decided to speak. "J-June.", I swallowed and touched her hand back. "How long-"

As usual, she understood what I meant. "5 days. You have been in that unsconscious state for 5 days.", she answered briefly as she squeezed my hand.

"What.. About h-him?", tears filled my eyes when I thought of him.

"Well.. How to explain this.. He's not in a good mood, yeah, that would sum it up."

"Say it!", I yelled under sobs. Something was wrong about that answer but I had no clue what.

"What's happening here?", the doctor came in and all of a sudden I was surrounded by nurses checking my pulse and blood pressure. The doctor checked my reflexes and my pupils.

"Miss, everything is the way it should be. Better, to be honest. I hadn't expected you to be awake so soon and in such a good state. Just woke up from coma and as fit as a fiddle. You have to stay here for reasons of safety, though.", he wrote something down on a pad.

"No.", I responded, making him look up. "I want to go home. Immediately. Now."

"Miss, err, Golden, this is impossible. I'm sorry."

"This is a hospital, isn't it?"

The doctor and the nurses exchanged looks, hesitating a little. Of course they thought I was insane.

But then, for my surprise, they nodded.

"See. No prison. You can't lock me in here, without me wanting it. I'm leaving.", I said as I hopped out of the bed.
