Black Diamond's court was always of the utmost elegance. You could always pick their gems out of a crowd. Regardless of what kind of gem it was, it was gothic, graceful, and most likely better than the others. Black Diamond's gem was much more saturated and compact than the other diamonds due to their size vs. what size they should've been, leading to much stronger gems with much more potent powers.

There was Black Zircon. She wasn't just a legal defender and/or prosecutor, she could read a gem's memories and present them before the diamonds in trial. She was the best lawyer Homeworld had, because no other zircon could do that.

There was Black Sapphire. Her future readings could stretch farther and were much more detailed than those of the other sapphires. She could predict several paths, and actively try to make a certain path happen if she wanted to. Though she typically sat back and allowed the future to happen, she wouldn't hesitate to assist Black Zircon in making sure justice is served.

Then there was Melanite. An elegant garnet, overseeing Black Diamond's only colony. At least, the only colony they had on their own. They often helped other diamonds, something Rainbow recommended before they could have their own colony. Black Diamond was ecstatic to help out and get that experience. When they finally received their own colony, all of Homeworld celebrated. Homeworld knows how Black Diamond's gems are. Imagine an entire colony of them! When Melanite was created and told she would oversee the colony, she was absolutely thrilled. Everyone was waiting to see what she could do. She would be the best garnet Homeworld had ever seen!

        Except...Garnets don't work alone.

For every colony, there is a Moon Base. And every Moon Base needs a moonstone. Moonstones are some of the most prized gems on Homeworld. Like how a sapphire sees the future, a moonstone sees the present. They can view the entire colony from the base to help a garnet properly oversee it so that the garnet may then go to the colony to resolve any issues that arise. Most moonstones love their jobs, so Melanite was hopeful to have a friend to work with.

        The feelings were not mutual.

Black Moonstone was cold. She was calculated, sophisticated, and preferred to work alone. She did her job in silence, avoiding talking to Melanite unless it was absolutely necessary.

Melanite walked into the Moon Base, giving a friendly smile. "Moonstone! My dear, how is everything?"

Black Moonstone stared at the colony through the Moon Base window blankly. "...Everything is fine."

Melanite's smile wavered. "...Well, what do you mean by 'fine'? Are there no issues? Or perhaps only some? What's going on with the new ge-"

Black Moonstone turned to her, glaring. "Maybe you should go down there and do your job, Black Andradite. Then you'll find out. Cease your little moonstone affliction. I am not your pet. I'll do my work, and you need to do yours." She turned back to the window, huffing.

Melanite flinched. Black Andradite...? There was no need to use that name. Black Andradite was what was proposed by Rainbow Diamond during Melanite's creation, but the name Melanite? That was given by Black Diamond themself. That was her name...There was no need to get scientific with her. Melanite sighed and went back wordlessly through the door she came from. Why was Black Moonstone so cruel...? What had she done to her? She was merely trying to do her job, and be friendly while doing it. She wasn't crossing any boundaries... Everyone loves moonstones, but especially garnets. Melanite returned to her room, sinking into her chair. Despite Black Moonstone's cruelty, she couldn't get her out of her head... How she looked, how she spoke, the grace she did her work in at all times... Everything about her was exquisite. Black Moonstone knew Melanite thought that.

Imagine Black Moonstone's reaction when she realized that what Melanite was feeling towards her was love.
