Melanite was completely still in her shock, staring at her. That...was a new moonstone? Her beauty felt like it was radiating across the ballroom...Melanite was frozen in a room of gems that moved.

Topaz raised an eyebrow. "...Sooo...are you gonna go talk to her or are you just gonna stare at her and make it weird?"

Melanite blinked. "...I...I-I can't talk to her...There's no way..."

"Sure you can!" Topaz said with a bright smile. "Just...talk!"

"Oh thanks, that's awfully helpful," Melanite groaned. She put a hand on her forehead. "I just...I can't just walk up to a moonstone and say hi, I'll look like an idiot!"

        "Why?"

Melanite's eyes snapped open. She looked down...Coffee Moonstone was staring up at her.

"I....I......." Melanite couldn't even formulate a response. Something about Coffee's face, even with her hidden eyes, just showed the purest gentleness...the most understanding... Coffee's expression was paradise. The way she looked at Melanite showed nothing but care for this gem she had never even met. She was so concerned, just because Melanite seemed upset with herself...Coffee's kindness, in these few short seconds, enveloped her entire being...

Oh how it was ripped away so soon.

Andradite yanked Coffee away from Melanite, a harsh scowl on her face.

"WHAT are you doing around MY moonstone?"

Melanite's look of mild surprise morphed into one of horror.

        "...Y...Your moonstone?" Melanite said.

Andradite sneered. "What, thought you could claim her or something? Black Diamond and Taupe Diamond don't even have a COLONY together! There's nothing for you to do with her! So get your DESPERATE hands away from her!"

"She wasn't even touching me!" Coffee spoke up. Andradite wheeled on her.

"You keep your mouth shut!" Andradite snapped. "You have NO idea what this garnet is like!"

"And you do after everyone saw you trying to get a rise out of her?"

Andradite and Melanite looked over. It was one of the Malaya garnets. The group stood, glaring at Andradite. Andradite practically growled.

"I do! She's trying to hop from moonstone to moonstone- She should be considered a PREDATOR!"

Vibrations shook the ballroom. When they finally stopped, only then did Melanite and Andradite realize that the whole ballroom was staring at them.

Rainbow Diamond glared down at Andradite. "You're disrupting a peaceful event, garnet."

Andradite stared up at her, now terrified. ",,,I-I'm sorry, my diamond, I-"

"You're not sorry for doing it. You're sorry for getting caught," Rainbow said, narrowing her eyes. "You always are. It's how you are...Quite the pattern, hm?"

Andradite tried to stammer out a response, but couldn't. Rainbow sighed.

"Coffee...I'm so sorry it turned out like this. Believe me, I'll make sure you don't have to work with her."

"WHAT?!" Andradite cried out. "You- You can't just-"

"I assure you I can," Rainbow asserted. "Now. Either let everyone enjoy the ball in peace or leave. Your shenanigans are to come to an end, garnet. Please...act appropriately for your position."

Andradite looked shocked, but...eventually she just shrunk back, standing down. Rainbow Diamond gave a nod and sat back down. Gems went back to what they were doing, though some now whispered about Andradite's childishness...

Melanite looked around. Where did Coffee go? Finally, Melanite spotted her. Coffee was being escorted from the embarrassment by a Rainbow Quartz and a Rose Quartz...How kind they were to get her out of that situation.

Normally Melanite would've just sighed and tried to have a good time, but...something in her changed. So many people trying to take away the one thing she wanted more than anything...And now a moonstone actually liked her, and all that happens is someone tries to take her away. Part of it was a physical sensation, another part of it was just a feeling that shrouded her entire being. But she knew one thing for certain...

She was going to get that moonstone. And nobody would be able to take Coffee away from her.
