Serena ran through the darkness of the forest, letting the only light from the moon guide her away from the horrific beast that was now chasing her in the dead of night. Her bare feet being scraped by the branches that laid upon the ground, she ignored the pain and begged her legs to move faster, for her feet to take her farther. She did not dare to look behind her and see how close or far her hunter was, knowing that the second she did she would fall and end up dead. There was one thing on her mind and one thing only, run. Serena let out a small scream as her foot tangled in the vines beneath her, causing her to fall and scrape her once perfect skin. She panted harshly, desperate to get the oxygen in her body and stop her lungs from screaming profanities at her for depriving them of the basic necessity. Serena heard the growl come from behind her, turning slowly to see a midnight black wolf appear into the moonlight lit opening. It baring its teeth to her as it slowly stalked towards her, toying with her fear and emotions. Serena backed up slightly, crawling backwards until her sore back hit the hardness of the old tree, causing her to gasp. Yellow eyes bored into Serena's violet ones as she watched the wolf smirk, knowing he finally caught his prey and was now ready to claim his prize. She opened her mouth to scream, to shout, to yell for help but words were fallen on deaf ears as her voice was caught in her throat, forbidding her the luxury of making sounds. Fear now paralyzed her body as she watched in horror the wolf crouched to the ground before pouncing on her, closing her eyes as she waited for death to welcome her body.
Serena shot up from her bed, sweat covering her body as her chest rose and fell abnormally, gasping for air. Her one hand was clenched tightly in the thin layer of sheets that wrapped around her petite body, her other hand placed on her chest over her heart. Tears welled up in her eyes as she thought of her dream, her nightmare and the yellow piercing eyes haunting her in the darkness of the night. Groaning slightly she looked over at the alarm clock to read the bright red numbers that illuminated her nightstand. 5:39am. It was definitely too early for Serena to get up, and for anyone in her household to even be awake, or at least so she thought. Her head lifted up to her door as it opened and closed, seeing a tall man with brown hair come into her room, and groggily walked to the other side of the bed. He laid himself on the soft mattress, his back resting against the headboard as he extended his arm to her, causing Serena to quickly snuggle into his side fitting perfectly. Taking a deep breath, she buried her face into the man's chest, finally letting out the emotions bundled up in her because of her dream and sobbed harshly, her body shaking violently.
Time had passed once Serena finally calmed down, her breathing evening out as her chest now rose and fell at a normal pace. Looking up at the tall man, she noticed as he sighed softly, taking the sleeve of his long night shirt and brushed away the remaining tears of her now pink stained cheeks. He rubbed her back soothingly as she laid her head on his chest again, finally letting sleep subbcum her.
The tall man watched as Serena slept, rubbing her back soothingly and taking in her features once again. He heard the door to her room open and closed, however, his eyes never left the sleeping girl in front of him for he already knew who was coming in. The scent of late night coffee, mixed in with the rain that washed over the room told him exactly who it was. The bed dipped once more as a third party sat on the bed, gently petting Serena's hair back and sighed "Was it the nightmare again, Kane?" was all his whispered in the silent air.
The tall man, who was named Kane, nodded his head slowly as he held Serena closer to him and closed his eyes "I don't know how to help her Easton. How are we supposed to protect our baby sister from harm when the very thing she is afraid of is inside her, locked away and begging to come out." Kane groaned looking to the eldest brother for help, pleading slightly to make the pain go away.
Easton shook his head as he brought the thin sheet back up, wrapping Serena in it and sighed softly, sadness and regret flashing in his eyes "There is not much we can do Kane. The less she knows the safer she will be." he said softly before running the back of his hand along her cheek smiling weakly "Until the time is right, she needs to stay in the dark about all this. Let her live Kane. Let her spend time with Kwang-Sun and Emerald. Let her go to parties, have sleepovers and be a teen. Once she knows everything will change, we did. I want her to live, to not be burdened with this until it is absolutely necessary. After all, she will be turning seventeen soon"
Kane closed his eyes and leaned his head back once more, pulling Serena closer to his body, frustration slowly building up in him. He promised them, he promised his parents that he would protect her for anyone and anything, but how does he protect her from herself? Easton remained quiet beside him, the door opening once more as the bed dipped at the end, a man with blonde hair and hazel eyes laying at the foot of Serena's bed and sighed "She has us Kane, and as long as she has us, she will be okay. One day she will understand why we do what we do, why we are so protective over her" Caspian, the middle brother said.
The three brothers looked over at their little sister, the light from the moon breaking through the curtains of her room, shining softly on her face add illuminating her fair skin. It was then they all made a silent vow, to each other and to their sister that no matter what they would protect her. From the monsters under the bed, from the man who was desperately trying to find her, from her own inner demons. They will protect Serena, no matter the cost.
