"Xavier!" Orion greeted so the entire class could hear as he walked into history.

Xavier raised his head, looking at the tall blonde. A cocky smile that Xavier was happy to escape for the weekend was on his face. God, sometimes Xavier wanted to punch his stupid, perfect face.

Not wanting to deal with him, Xavier looked back down at his phone. Of course, that didn't stop Orion. He made his way over and sat in his seat, looking at the skinny brunette male. "Hey buddy!" he continued, not shaking that stupid grin off his face. "How was your weekend?"

"It was fine," he answered, trying to make it clear in his tone that he wanted to be left alone.

Orion didn't seem to catch on, "Fine, huh? Well, mine was pretty damn great. Eden and I really hit it off, might ask her to be my girlfriend soon."

Xavier tightened the grip on his phone, anger and sadness flowing through him. He wished this stupid class would be over already, and it hadn't even begun.

"So, what's your do this weekend anyways?" Orion asked, still not getting the memo that Xavier really hated him at the moment.

Xavier, trying to contain his anger, replied, "I just hung out with Maddy."

Their movie night had gone well, even though it was just the two of them. Xavier and Madeline's moms had known each other since high school, so they were trusted enough to have sleepovers together. The two had watched the Lord of the Rings series, ate all the popcorn in Madeline's house, and slept most of Saturday away. Madeline also sat there and listened to Xavier's long rant about Orion and how much he wanted to beat the shit out of him sometimes.

"Bro, if I were you, I would get all up in that. I mean sure, Maddy isn't super attractive or anything but-" Orion started to say before Xavier cut him off.

"Okay, shut your fucking mouth. I refuse to listen to you talk about Maddy like that. I know we got seated together and everything, but that does not mean we need to be friends. So if you could shut the hell up for once in your god damn life, that would be really fucking nice buddy."

When Xavier looked at him, Orion had a shocked expression on his face. His eyes were wide and his mouth fell open. Perfect timing, the bell rang and class started.

*~*~*

Xavier walked out of trigonometry, already ready for the week to be over. He waited for his short brunette best friend to arrive. As soon as he spotted her, he made his way to her, and the pair walked to lunch together.

Once they had a moment to talk, Madeline looked up at him. "I heard about what happened in history," she told him.

He waited for her to add on, but she didn't, so he replied, "Well, I wasn't going to let him shit talk my best friend like that."

Madeline's lips grew into a smile. "Thanks Xavier," she said, tucking a piece of brown hair behind her ear. "Quick question though."

"Yeah?"

Madeline seemed to shy away a bit before asking him, "Do you think I'm attractive?"

Xavier was taken aback for a second. He hadn't really taken time to think about it, Madeline had been like his sister for god knows how long. He looked her up and down. He noticed how petite she was, she definitely had a small figure. Her straight brown hair fell just below her shoulders, a height that looked perfect on her. Her eyes, which he knew from memory were an emerald green, were wide in hope.

"Um, yeah Maddy. You're very pretty, and no one should let you think differently," he told her finally, a smile taking over his face.

Madeline just smirked and replied, "Yeah, I know, I just wanted to hear you say it."

Xavier just laughed at her as they made their way through the lunch line. When they got to their table, Rylan and Tatiana were already there. Like always, Madeline sat between Xavier and Tatiana, and Rylan sat on the other side of Tatiana. Rylan was the first to speak, "So, how was movie night?"

"It was definitely fun," Madeline answered, a smile taking over her face. "I learned that Xavier cannot catch popcorn in his mouth very well."

Xavier just laughed and argued, "I caught a few, not my fault you suck at tossing them."

"Not like you're a pro at aim, and I still caught most of them," Madeline retorted, a huge grin on her white face.

Suddenly, Xavier felt someone plop down next to him. Once again, Eden took her spot next to Xavier at the table. "Hello guys!" she greeted with a sweet smile.

"Hey Eden," Madeline was the first to reply. "Do you know when our first cheerleading practice is?"

Eden looked over at Madeline, the smile still on her face, and answered, "Hi Maddy! First practice is next week, starting Tuesday. Congratulations on making the team, by the way!"

"Thanks," Madeline nonchalantly replied, going back to her food.

Xavier felt almost awkward sitting next to Eden now. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted Orion, who was motioning for Eden. "Uh, I think Orion wants you," he told her, looking down at her.

Eden looked up and right over at Orion. She then turned her gaze to Xavier, her smile seeming almost fake to him, but maybe that was just his imagination raising his hopes. "Thank you," she said, before standing up and walking over to the blonde.

Once she was out of ear shot, Madeline let out an audible sigh. "My god, how can somebody act so nice but be into such a douchebag?" she complained.

Xavier could feel the ache in his heart again as he just shrugged his shoulders. Suddenly, he could feel Madeline's head resting on his shoulder. "Everything is going to be alright Xavier," she whispered, not wanting to be too loud as she was right next to his ear. "You deserve someone who wants you more than anything, and you'll find somebody like that."

Xavier just nodded slightly, trying not to disturb her.  "Yeah, thanks Maddy," he replied, a small smile taking over his face.

Xavier could feel Madeline fall asleep on his shoulder, so he made sure he didn't move until about five minutes before the bell.  Once he realized lunch was almost over, he shook the small girl gently awake, and they threw their trays out together.  Before the end of the period, Madeline made sure to give Xavier a huge hug, still trying to comfort him in every way possible.  For the first time since Friday, Xavier felt content.
