Jannet just stood there in the freezing rain. She had just barely missed the bus and didn't have a way to get to school. Not to mention the fact that she had locked herself out of the house.
"Good job! Now you are stuck out here! You are so stupid!" She kept thinking to herself.
She started walking down the road a little way. She lived in an apartment complex in a smallish
town just outside of the town her school was in. Maybe she could walk to the little convenience store which was like 5 blocks away, not to mention it was still pouring rain. She started walking not knowing where she was going when all of a sudden she heard a voice call her name.
"Jannet! Wait up!!" She turned and saw Cody jogging up to her. He was soaked as well. "I missed the bus," He breathed. "I didn't think I was gonna be able to make it on time..."
She laughed slightly, "Me too."
They walked a little way longer and then he grabbed her hand. "Hey, let's head to your place and skip school. It's closer than mine."
"Alright!" She gladfully agreed. They ran all the way back to her house and once they got there she remembered she didn't have the key. "Umm... Cody... I don't have a key."
"Are you serious?!"
She nodded, "Mmhmm."
He began laughing. "What are you ever gonna do without me?"
She looked at him confused and followed him as he walked around the house. The rain started
pelting them more as they walked. Cody then stopped in front of a window. "What are you gonna do here?" Jannet asked.
"Watch." The next thing Jannet knew the window was open and he was helping her inside. He shut the window behind him and said, "Tada!!!"
She burst out laughing. "You are such a nut!"
"Me the nut? You're the one who forgot the keys."
"Well--" She tried to think of a comeback but had nothing. "Touche." They both laughed.
They needed to dry off, get into some dry clothes, and clean up so they both went their separate ways. They had done this a million times so they both knew where their favorite ones were. There were 3 bathrooms in Jannet's house. The main bathroom, which neither of them liked, the guest bathroom, which was Cody's favorite, and the bathroom suite, which was Jannet's favorite. So Jannet ran upstairs to the suite while Cody stayed on the first floor to use the guest bathroom. They both decided to shower and change clothes. Cody was pretty quick so he sat in the main living area, where there was a giant flat screen, and waited for Jannet. He pulled out his phone and started messing around with it. About 10 minutes later he heard footsteps coming down the stairs. Jannet was wearing her usual dark blue skinny jeans, plain black t-shirt, and an unbuttoned red and black flannel with some red converse.
"What?" She asked when she noticed Cody staring.
"Uh-- I uh--" He stammered looking for an answer.
Smiling Jannet said, "Don't get too cocky, Cody."
He put his head down and tried to hide his embarrassment. "I hate you..."
"I love you too!" Jannet said playfully. She grabbed his hand and said, "Let's go up to my room."
They rushed up the stairs to her bedroom and Jannet plopped on the bed while Cody did a belly flop onto the loveseat she had in front of it. They both started playing on their phones.
"Uh... I wouldn't look at your insta., if I were you." Cody warned. "What is it this time?" Jannet sighed.
"You don't wanna know..."
"Sure, I do!" Jannet exclaimed. She quickly pulled up her Instagram and instantly regretted it. Amy and Leana were talking and spreading rumors about her again. Apparently, this time she was skipping class to hook up with guys, as well as the normal stuff about her having STDs, being overweight, etc. She threw her phone down.
"Told ya so..." Cody said sadly as he climbed onto her bed to hug her. They laid there for a minute as she cried silently. He held her and whispered, "It'll be okay, Jannet. We're in this together. I'm here for you. I'll always be here." She buried her head in his chest and huddled closer to him, her tears soaking his shirt.
