Chapter Two

It was much sunnier the next morning. There were still puddles on the sidewalk and the trees were still dripping, but there was no need for an umbrella. It made things much easier for Kenma, since he could play a game that required two hands now.

Just like the day before, Kenma was stopped by a small black cat rubbing his face against his legs, only for a tall, black-haired upperclassman to run up and seize the cat off the sidewalk. A grin crossing his face, Kuroo looked up at Kenma, struggling to keep the cat in his arms. "Say, Kozume-san, I didn't get a chance to bring this one to a shelter yesterday. How about you join me when I go today after school?"

Kenma stared at him blankly. "Why?"

"He seems to like you, y'know. It'll be easier to get him there if you're around."

"...sure. Whatever."

Kuroo's grin widened. "Great. See ya at lunch." before Kenma could say anything else, he ran off, presumably to put the cat wherever he'd left it yesterday. Yet again like the day before, Kenma watched Kuroo's retreating back disappear in the distance for a moment before going back to his game.

Once lunch rolled around, Kuroo showed up to Kenma's classroom even faster than yesterday. He sat down in the chair at the desk in front of Kenma's again, setting down his lunch and pulling an apple out of it. "Still not eating anything?" Kuroo prompted, staring down at Kenma's phone.

"I'm not hungry," Kenma told him, not bothering to look up.

"Yeah, apparently you never are."

"You've only known me for two-"

Kenma was cut off by Kuroo placing the apple right in front of his face. He scowled and sat up, ignoring it so that he could see his game. Irritated, Kuroo snatched Kenma's phone out of his hands and held it above his head.

"Hey-" Kenma reached up, trying to grab at it unsuccessfully. "Give that back."

"Jeez, do you even know how to raise your voice?" Kuroo snickered. "I'll give it back once you eat that."

Kenma glared at Kuroo, who just kept grinning, before picking up the apple and taking a tiny bite. "There. I ate it. Give me my phone back."

"All of it."

"You're telling me to eat the seeds."

"You know what I mean!"

Kenma sighed and took another bite. It wasn't as if he didn't like apples, he just didn't want to eat. This was basically blackmail to him.

Once he was done, Kuroo handed his phone back over, satisfied. "Isn't that better?"

"Not really." Kenma pouted, resuming the game. Thank god Kuroo hit pause when he took it.

"Is there really not anyone else who reminds you to eat?" Kuroo asked, leaning in closer and propping his head up on his hand.

"No. I don't really have friends."

Kuroo gazed at Kenma intently. "Really?"
