Chapter Four
The next day arrived, and Kenma was already sitting on a swing in the park waiting for Kuroo when it was barely nine thirty. He swung back and forth a little, looking around at his surroundings. He wasn't used to seeing in color yet.
Kenma dug his feet into the mulch below him, kicking it up and watching the different shades of beige scatter. He'd never really realized just how many colors there were, really. The swingset was painted dark green, but the chains were rusted brown over the gray metal. It was a lot different than he'd always expected.
He shivered a little. Maybe it wasn't a good idea to show up so early while it's so cold out.
"...Kenma?"
He looked up again to see Kuroo standing in front of him with his eyebrows raised. He'd parted the hair that was usually over his eye a little, so it was easier to see. He's almost as early as I am. "Your hair."
"What about it?" Kenma mumbled, standing up.
"You dyed it." Kuroo replied, reaching his hand out and playing with it. "It looks really nice."
Kenma felt his face turn red and quickly looked down, trying to hide it. "Yeah. Whatever..."
Kuroo chuckled. "Why'd ya dye it?"
"I- I thought the black hair looked boring with this haircut..." Kenma murmured, his face heating up even more. I didn't dye it because of you, no, not at all.
"If you say so." Kuroo grinned and grabbed Kenma's hand. "Hey, Kenma. What's your favorite food?"
"Apple pie. Why?"
"Hm, just an idea. Wanna go to your place?"
Kenma glanced back up at him. "Sure, I guess."
Kuroo didn't say anything else, instead just smirking as he squeezed Kenma's hand and started leading him out of the park. Confused as to what Kuroo was planning, Kenma followed him.
They got back to Kenma's house and went inside after he unlocked the door. "Where're your parents?" Kuroo asked as they went into the kitchen.
"Errands or something." Kenma told him, sitting down at the table. "Why did we come back here if you wanted to meet in the park? You could've just asked to see me here yesterday..."
"Eh, that was kinda on a whim." Kuroo opened the fridge and bent down, rubbing his chin. "Damn, I don't think you have everything."
"For what?"
"An apple pie, duh. You up for a quick ingredients run?" Kuroo leaned back and grinned.
---
"Can't we just buy one?" Kenma grumbled as he stood next to Kuroo in the market, who was picking up tart apples.
"Yeah, but I wanna make one. Besiiiiides, baking things is fun."
"I've never-"
"Shh." Kuroo put his finger up to Kenma's lips. "C'mon, soulmate, don't ya think making your favorite food together is a good first date?"
