Your eyes snapped open and you sat bolt upright, heart galloping. You were drenched in sweat and breathing heavily, although you weren't quite sure why you were so anxious. Attempting to slow your racing mind, you forced yourself to inhale, hold, exhale, hold, and repeat. Okay, easy does it.
Letting out a weighty sigh, you allowed yourself to observe your surroundings for the first time; this did not help you calm down.
You had no idea where, who, what, or why you were. As one can imagine, this may be somewhat disorienting.
You were sitting in a bed of grass, surrounded by roots, and staring at a glinting, silver sword stuck blade-first into it's stone pedestal. You appeared to be in a dense forest, the only light coming from small patches of sun darting in from above the trees. And yet, the forest was not dark, not even dim. Interesting. Pollen hung in the hazy air, clogging your senses with the overwhelming smell of pure nature.
You cleared your throat and looked down at yourself to find that your s/t skin was covered by a plain, spotless white dress. This surprised you, though you weren't sure why, as you had no memory of the last outfit you had worn. Maybe this had been it.
Reaching behind your head, you pulled a very long strand of h/c hair in front of your eyes, examining it closely. It was impossibly clean and smooth for you to have been sleeping in the grass, but you decided that this was probably the least of your worries. You let the strand slip off of your hand, before running gentle fingers through your hair - then froze. A memory more solid than the ground beneath you stole your breath away, chest tightening and lungs constricting...
You were stretched out in a field that was completely covered with flowers, twirling a stem between your fingers. The sky looked painted, the sun bright, as it prepared to sink below the treeline to make way for the moon.
Your head was resting on someone's thigh, and that someone was carefully combing through the same h/c locks you had just inspected.
"I never manage to grow tired of Hyrule's beauty, especially around sunset," you heard yourself saying. A mild hum came in reply from the young man behind you. You twisted your neck to meet dazzling, cobalt-teal eyes with your own e/c ones.
The rest of his face was framed in nearly shoulder length, golden brown hair, pulled back into a small, messy ponytail. A few pieces in the front had escaped and hung loose at either temple, accentuating a slim face and high cheekbones. Great Hylia, he alone was the most spectacular sight in all of Hyrule, without a doubt.
The smallest of smiles played on his defined features, somehow making him even more breathtaking.
"Princess-" His voice was so soft that you were sure the wind must have frequently carried it away. The you in the memory halted his words with a judging look, and his tiny smirk widened, almost imperceptibly.
"How many times must I repeat myself?" you asked, your tone a mock-stern. You shifted in the flowers so that you were sitting up, head turned to face the gorgeous boy situated beside you. Your faces were mere inches apart.
"Forgive me," he whispered, and you had the thought that he didn't seem to use his voice all too often. A moderate breeze rustled the leaves and flowers around you, disturbing your hair and blowing petals into the air.
"What were you saying, before?" you prompted, cocking your head slightly, but holding eye contact. You would have sworn he leaned closer to you.
"We should begin back towards the castle, Pr- f/n," he corrected himself at the end of the sentence, his expression asking for approval. Still, you were amazed at how quiet his words were, and almost impressed with yourself for being able to understand what he was saying. You pursed your lips, and-
Reality slammed into you like a sprinting horse with it coming with new found confusion. You blinked, wide-eyed. f/n, huh. But, Princess?
You began pulling yourself to your feet when the tree started talking.
