Izzy's POV

"Izzy, I don't see how you could be so insecure all the time. You're literally perfect in, like, every way," my best friend says to me from the driver's seat of the car. We are going to the store to pick up a few things for our sleepover tonight. We literally live together but she demanded we have a sleepover like we used to in high school, so I couldn't say no.

"Because, Vinnie. I just don't see myself as perfect. I just see the problems."

"You deserve the best, honestly. You should be more confident. You could ask any guy for his number and he would be lucky to give it to you. Really, he'd be lucky if you even spoke to him, but that's beside the point."

"Okay, fine. I will talk to a guy today. But only if he's cute, though," I suggest with a wink.

"Good. But I'm choosing."

We walk up to the dollar store, ready to gather our supplies. The green carpet and nearly empty shelves always make me smile for some reason. There's something comforting about it to me.

The bell on the door rings as we enter, alerting everyone of our arrival. Of course, there's barely anyone in here. Vinnie grabs a basket and scans the room before coming over to me, "I'll get the stuff. You go talk to that one." She points directly at a boy across the store in the snacks section. His hair is bleached and has light purple streaks. He wears purple-tinted lenses in his sunglasses that sit on the end of his nose until he slides them back up to the bridge. His whole aura reads, "CONFIDENCE."

I try to turn and tell Vinnie that I can't do this, but she's already gone. I take a deep breath and accept my fate. Okay, Izzy. You've got this.

I cautiously approach the boy, taking notice of his oversized, white sweatshirt and ripped black jeans. He doesn't pay any attention to me at first as he studies the available chips on display, but once I come up and stand next to him, he looks over at me and offers a polite smile.

I gather all the confidence I have and say, "Hi. My name's Izzy and I'm sorry to bother you, but I thought you were really cute and I was hoping to possibly get your number. If not, that's totally cool, too. Then at least I made your day. Oops, I'm rambling sorry." I smile at him awkwardly and give him a hopeful smile.

He looks at me for a second, not sure what to say, but finally smiles and says, "Hi. I'm Jack. It's nice to meet you. Thanks for the compliment and I would love to get your number." His voice is a lot deeper than I thought it would be for some reason and honestly, I kind of like it.

"Really? Oh my gosh, Vinnie is going to be so proud of me!" I slap a hand over my mouth. "Sorry."

"No need to apologize. The rambling is cute," he says with a wink. I giggle and pull out my phone. He types it into my phone and I thank him before Vinnie comes around the corner and pulls me away.

"Did you get his number?"

I smile, "Yeah."

"Yes! See what a little confidence can get you?" I blush and nod at her.

"I should do that more often."
