when you're with me, no judgement
we can get that from
everyone else
—niall horanElise's POV
"Hi! Welcome to Sephora! We are having a sale right now! Buy one get one fifty percent off on all concealers! Let me know if I can help you find anything!" I smile at the blonde boy who just walked into the store. He looks a bit overwhelmed to say the least but he still smiles back at me before taking off wandering throughout the store.
I turn away from him and welcome a few more customers into the store in the same way. Suddenly, a very short woman appears in front of me, "Excuse me, ma'am. Where can I find the Tarte concealer display?"
"It's right over here," I say, leading her to the corresponding aisle. "Do you need a color match today?"
"No. I know my own skin color."
Okay, rude. "Sorry, ma'am. Let me know if you need anything." I smile and walk away, knowing if I stayed that I would go off. I go to my makeup station and reorganize for the twentieth time today.
"Um, miss? Could you help me find the right shade of foundation for my skin tone?"
I turn around and there's a boy about the age of fourteen or fifteen. By the looks of it, his parents aren't super supportive of his interest in makeup. I can tell he bought the makeup himself and learned from YouTube videos. That's not a bad thing of course, they're usually a great way to learn new techniques and new looks. I'm glad he was brave enough to ask for help.
"I would love to," I reply with a grin. "What's your budget, bud?"
"I've got $80. Is that enough for a full face?" He furrows his eyebrows together and looks up at me in hopefulness.
"Well, it depends. Do you need moisturizer and primer and everything else? Or do you already have the skincare part of things?"
"I have moisturizer. Is primer important? I've seen some people that don't use primer." He sticks his hands in the pocket of his sweatshirt awkwardly.
"Primer is like the base of your whole face. It sounds like foundation would be the base right? But it's not. Primer helps your makeup last longer and keep your face from breaking out as bad if that's a problem you have." He nods along while I lead him through the store toward a specific display. "If you're looking for a good makeup brand that has quality products for a fairly cheap price, I recommend E.L.F. It's a great brand, good for your skin, and is good on your budget."
"So how do I find the right stuff to buy? Sorry, I'm new to all this." He smiles awkwardly like he's embarrassed.
"Well, first of all, you don't need to be embarrassed about anything. I was just as confused as you when I started out. Now here I am helping you. Second, how about I help you do a proper full face so that you know how to do everything the right way?"
"You'd do that?" He smiles super wide.
I nod and smile, "Of course."
"Thank you so much!" He attacks me in a hug and I hug back for a second.
"Come on, let's find you some makeup." We mostly stuck to the brand I had suggested so we could stay on his budget. I gave him a full makeover and helped him pick out products. I even gave him my phone number in case he had any questions or needed help.
While we were headed to check him out, a voice came from near us, "Woah. Dude, you look really cool." We both turned and saw the blonde boy I had greeted earlier. The boy I was helping froze in his spot. "Your makeup looks great. Did you do that yourself?"
He shook his head, "Uh, n-no. E-Elise helped me." He pointed at me. I smile at the blonde guy. "Are you who I think you are?"
"Well it depends. Who do you think I am?" The blonde boy flashes a smile at us.
"Y-You're Corbyn Besson right? Christina Harris' boyfriend?" The blonde boy nods happily. "NO WAY! I'm such a big fan of Christina's. I've been watching her videos for a while now. She's so cool! She's taught me so much!"
"Yeah, she's pretty great. I'm sure she'd love to hear that. Do you mind if I get a picture with you?" Corbyn smiles at the boy.
"You want a picture with me?"
"Well, duh. I've got to show Christina how awesome her chickees are, right?"
The boy smiles and Corbyn pulls out his phone before the kid turns to me, "Miss Elise, will you take our picture?"
"How could I say no to that smile?" I take the picture and hand Corbyn his phone back. "Now let's get you checked out, bud." I whisk the boy away to the checkout and get everything squared away. We were even five dollars under his budget, which is a huge win. I was happy to see him walk out the door with a big smile on his face.
"That was really cool of you by the way." I turn around and meet Corbyn's blue eyes.
"Oh. Thanks. It's my favorite part of the job," I explain with a wide grin.
"I'm glad you helped him and didn't make fun of him. A lot of people would have done that instead."
"I just don't get that. He has just as much of a right to makeup as girls do. If he enjoys it, people should be okay with that." I start cleaning up my station and clearing away all the samples I had grabbed.
"I guess it's just not the norm for some people. But I think it's just another form of art, right?"
"Right," I agree.
"Anyways, could you help me find a specific... uh, foundation? Christina needs a refill and sent me out to get some while she edits the new video. I've been here for an hour and I still can't find it."
"Sure. I'd love to help."
