Naruto put the money on the table.
"Come again!" The owner said smiling at the couple."We will" Naruto returned the smile "your place has the best ramen in the world, dattebayo?" His eyes sparkled.
"That's a bold claim" Sasuke furrowed his eyebrows once out of the small shop. There was no denying the deliciousness of it. Even Sasuke who was not a Ramen fan, finished his entire bowl of ramen and would have gone for seconds if it weren't way past midnight.
"Well I'm the ramen expert, 'ttebayo?" Naruto smiled at his lover and held his hand.
Sasuke seeing him smile like that, completely forgot about their initial date being ruined. He kept him close as they walked together.
The once busy streets were less busy. The noise died out and people were starting to close their night shops.
Sasuke was tense, worried they'd get attacked. On the other hand Naruto was way too relaxed just studying the area more. His eyes softening as he saw people living in the streets out in the cold. People that should be enjoying their life, huddling up together for warmth.
Naruto subconsciously left his partner's hand and walked to the alleyway when he saw a kid by themself. Only their eyes shone in the small dim lit street.
When Naruto got closer he saw the kid was holding another child in their small arms."Where are your parents?" He asked the dreaded question. The kid's eyes softened as they filled with tears then broke down and the tiny voice filled the silent space, echoing far.
"Kaasan..." The kid cried and the baby followed suit as she was awakened. Sasuke walked over when he heard all the crying.
"Should I call the police?" He asked but his sudden appearance had scared the already frightened child.
Naruto just gave him a subtle nod as he tried to calm them both. The blood on the blanket of the baby was proof she was a newborn.
"Where's she? Is she hurt? We can help her" he tried to reassure the child. The kid looked back at the dark alleyway. Naruto concluded immediately that she had given birth there. He rushed to the woman lighting the way with his phone's flaslight. It only took a moment to know that the woman was long dead from a haemorrhage. Her lips were blue, skin pale and ice cold. Blood surrounded her everywhere.
He walked back out, the kid looked at him with hopeful eyes but he kneeled beside her. His eyes filled with tears as no child should ever face something like this.
"I'm afraid I have some-...""She's dead...just like tou-san" the kid had already seen her father die not too long ago due to the harsh winter. She was no stranger to death but it didn't mean she was any ready to lose her last family.
"I'm sorry" the stranger had told her, he seemed to genuinely share her pain despite not really knowing them. He had pulled her in his arms in a loving hug, she wept for her loss.
Sasuke was holding the baby keeping her warm best he could until the police arrived. Naruto had removed his coat and placed it around the older kid.
Yāra, the seven year old, held on to it feeling the warmth that lingered from his body. She took in the scent that very much resembled that of her own father.
People always treated them like garbage, specially people that dressed as nicely as these two. She was used to it, that was her reality. Yet the phoenix and the raven were both nice. If only they had met them before, her family wouldn't have been gone.
"Naruto, you should stay warm too" Sasuke knew his argument wasn't much of an argument as they didn't have any other option.
"I told you before; Kirigakure had the harshest winters. I'm fine"
