**Mika’s P.O.V**
Belly down atop a hill, I keep watch over the dilapidated church. We have been doing recon the past six hours and plan to attack just as the sun sets.
To any old passer-by, the church would appear deserted.
I, however, was taught and taught well. I learned the tell-tale ways of noticing those who did not wish to be noticed.
Things that blended in just a little bit too well.
Already, I have discovered the location of approximately half a dozen guards. Three stationed on the shallow trench beside the roadway, eyes open for any who approach, two in the bell tower, each checking every few minutes that all is clear.
The last, most studiously well hidden, sits upon a bench.
So out in the open, it seems they would be the most obvious, but no, it is the cleverest defensive position.
Covered in presumably ash and such, he sits still as a statue.
Only the minute flutter if his bangs in the breeze moments ago gave him away. He was good.
Shimmying back, I rush over to my team concealed some hundred yards away or so.
In just minutes, the battle will begin.
“Okay men, I hope you all are ready. Jeffrey reported the sound of crying and such behind the structure, most likely coming from the cellar. While we are attacking the front, him and his team will rush the few guards and grab the kids before taking them to cover. We have to be quick. We have to be ready. We have to WIN!” He bellowed, causing the others to answer his cry with one of their own.
At that moment, the sun hit the horizon.
Glancing at the sinking fiery orb in the sky, I wonder just how many of us will be there to celebrate the next dawn. I refuse to believe we will fail but am not so foolish as to believe that we will get away unscathed.
Lizzy is standing just a few feet to my right.
Knowing this is possibly the last time one of us will see the other, I sweep her up into my arms and kiss her.

I listen with one ear to the words Mika says.
He was a born leader. You could almost feel the electrical charge resonate around and sink into the very marrow of all those present.
My main attention, however, is just beyond our hill.
Jonathan.
Is he cold? Hungry? Have they cared enough for him and the ‘precious sacrifices’ to take care of their needs?
Righteous anger fills me to the core. My hands begin to tingle with energy, just waiting to be unleashed.
Waves upon waves of hatred and raw power sweep over me, they threaten to drown me if I do not release it soon.
Suddenly, I feel arms wrap around me, lips upon mine devouring my very soul. I respond whole heartedly, my arms going around Mika’s neck of their own accord, my hand tangle into his hair.
This isn’t some innocent, loving kiss.
No, this is a kiss goodbye.
A kiss to remember one another with, as we know one of us might not make it.
As the last rays of the sun sink below the horizon, I’m wrenched from the soul-searing kiss.
Pain like no other rips through my whole being.
