Phillip was staring at the nail polish, wondering why someone should decorate their nails. It didn't make any sense to him at all, but that wasn't the only thing on his mind. Today, in addition to fresh supplies, they are getting a new life. His name was Jacob, and he was 4 weeks old. Phillip would be put in charge of raising him.

In Phillip's unit, and every unit around, new borns are given one guardian. They stay with this guardian until they are 13, then they are responsible for themselves. When you turn 16, you are eligible to become a guardian. Almost everyone in their life time becomes a guardian one way or another. It was simply Phillip's turn. He knew how important it was, and started researching how to raise a child right away. Of course, that was last week. Now he is more relaxed, and is ready for the new born to come into his life.

Charlie walked in the room, he had brought with him a what seemed like new pair of socks. "The supplies are here," he said "I can't believe you're getting a child, how cool is that!" By the look on Charlie's face Phillip knew that something was bothering him, but he couldn't worry about that now, what he had to worry about was Jacob. He sprinted out of the room, towards the entrance of the unit, where the supplies would be dropped off. There he meet the commander.

"Ah Phillip! Just in time!" The commander exclaimed. The delivery man seemed to be holding a bundled up cloth, very, very carefully. "Here ya go!" The man said to Phillip as he lowered the baby into his arms. "Be careful now!" The delivery man said, "You sure don't want to wake him up!"

Phillip looked down at the infant. In his learning sessions, he had been learning about how humans were made. The whole thing baffled him, for he had never seen a female. The only person in the whole unit that had ever laid eyes on one was Frank. He is the oldest of everyone in the unit. People joke around and say he is as old as the great mistake itself. Although, that would be impossible. Phillip then took the baby to the nursery. No one has stepped foot in there for a while, because there hasn't been any births in a few years.

Now that there is a new child though, Phillip would have to live with it. He laid the baby down in the crib and sat down. It didn't seem too difficult to him. He thought raising a child would be a piece of cake. Then Jacob started to cry, Phillip thought differently from that moment on.
