“Hey, Anabel, wait up!” Sylvia was running up behind me clutching her textbooks tightly to her chest with Alice following close behind.

I turned to face them responding, “Hey guys, what’s up?” Alice is my cousin and Sylvia my best friend.

Sylvia looked around and lowered her voice, “Are we still planning on tonight?” She looked dangerously beautiful; her long brown hair with blond highlights, which glowed like sun light, her beautiful eyes, red tank top just showing the birthmark that, resembled a bat on her right shoulder blade. Alice and I had the same one Alice had hers on her inner forearm and I had mine on my left shoulder. It’s the mark of a vampire. Sylvia and I are pure bread vampires, Alice isn’t. Her dad was a vampire and her mom was a shape shifter.

“Um… yeah of course, it’s going to be a blast!” I totally forgot about the meet!

“Anabel are you okay?” That was Alice, just as always she was wearing dark makeup, black jeans, and a black tank top that showed off her curves, she is gothic. People have said we look like we could be triplets because, we all have brown hair. Sylvia has golden blonde highlights hiding her left eye like a veil. Her dark blue jeans and deep blood red colored tank top give her stormy blue eyes a hypnotizing gray glow.

Alice’s shoulder length hair has pitch black lowlights that almost look blue in the sun. Her black skinny jeans and her pitch black tank top really bring out the emerald green in her eyes so that they appear to glow.

I have blood red highlights that tumble gently past my shoulders to stop in the middle of my back. My dark blue jeans have stylish holes up and down the legs.  My midnight blue tank top, which fits perfectly to show off my curves. And my eyes were a perfect match to Alice’s mesmerizing emerald green eyes, which is how you can tell we are related.

I noticed that they were staring at me “Listen I’ve got to go, I’ll see you later.” They opened their mouths to argue but I had already turned around and left.

As I stepped onto the side walk in front of my new home I looked around the yard and had to smile thinking that I would never get used to Jessica’s odd eccentricities. I looked at our bright, fuchsia pink front door, the inflatable Christmas decorations that she loves all year round, and her embarrassing love of nude statues explains why my friends never come over. When I opened the front door I looked around and realized that Jessica’s taste was painfully obvious in here as well, one thing that Jeren and I agree on is that her taste is… well, different.

The wallpaper looks like she got it at a 70’s yard sale. Again with her nude statues she has one right in front of the door, and the shag green carpeting in the living room. As I looked into the living room I saw my adoptive family was sitting on the ugly, neon yellow couch. Michael, the dad, was reading the newspaper, Jessica, The mom, was helping Jeren, the 10 year old brother, with his homework, Michael and Jessica adopted me 3 months ago.

I shut the door with my foot trying to get to my room as fast as I could, Jeren looked up and smiled “Hey Anabel!” He said cheerfully.

“Hi.” I responded dully standing behind them.

Jessica smiled at me suspiciously “Follow me. I want you to meet someone.” She lead me up the stairs, patting the nude statue on the head saying, “Hi Gary you look good today.” She led me to my door, this isn’t going to be good was the last thought in my head before she opened the door and said “This is Eliza.” My eyes were drawn to the tattoo on her upper arm, a full moon with a wolf howling up at it, its tradition that the mutts get it when they are born. “She is going to live with us. She is going to be your roommate!” One word was ringing in my head, and it was not roommate. “Eliza this is Anabel. I’ll leave you two to get to know each other.” She said and left me there with dog breath.
