Tyler stood nervously in front of the big brick house and rang the doorbell. Here he was, a freshman, ringing the doorbell of the most popular senior girl's house.
It was definitely not his idea, nor was it a dare. Actually, it was a part of the volunteer project he needed to complete before he could graduate.
Tyler, being the over achiever he was, was getting started a bit early.Tyler was a smart guy. He was what most people would call a nerd. From his button down shirt to his crazy good grades, he was exactly that - a nerd. Tyler had taken online courses over the summer and had advanced to Pre-Calculus. He thought tutoring would be good job for him, especially in his area of expertise - math. So he thought he would wind up tutoring a fellow freshman, or maybe even a middle schooler. But no. Of course not. Tyler ends up with THE Violet Summers.
Of all the students he could get to tutor, he somehow ends up with Sexy Summers?
Violet Summers was easily the most popular girl in the school. She had the followers. She had the wannabes. Oh and let's not forget the ones who loved to hate her. Tyler had noticed her on his first day. She had long, shiny, chocolate colored hair and with eyes so blue that they could rival the sky. Her body was the one from the fantasies every boy had. Slender with curves in all the right places and legs that went on for miles. She was definitely every guy's dream girl. Apparently, she was also an idiot.
And that's how Tyler ended up standing outside her door. The door swung open, revealing an aged brunette who appeared to be Violet's mother.
"Hi! You must be Tyler Elliot. So great to meat you," she smiles and shakes Tyler's hand. "Come in!"
Tyler stepped into the foyer that had shiny, wooden floors and an expensive looking chandelier. He noticed a white piano in the corner beside a bookshelf and the stairs that ran up the back wall. The walls were a neutral beige color and the whole room looked like it had come out of a magazine.
"Violet is up in her room, up the stairs, first door on the left."
"Thank you, Mrs. Summers," Tyler smiles and heads up the stairs of the huge mansion. He walks up to the first door on the left, and hesitantly knocks.
A distracted voice from inside the room shouts, "Come in!"
Here goes nothing.
Tyler twist the doorknob and opens the door to reveal the gorgeous girl dressed in shorts and a flowy, purple shirt. She was sitting on her bed with her textbook and her binders in front of her.
Her room was very relaxing with light purple walls and white furniture. It was an incredibly large room and held a huge canopy bed, a desk, a wardrobe, and most surprisingly, two large book shelves stocked full of books.
"Hi, I'm Violet," she stood and stuck out her hand.
"I.. I know," Tyler said and immediately regretted it when she giggled.
"And you are?" She asks with a giggle.
"Oh uh I'm Tyler," he said trying to sound sure of himself. "Tyler Elliot."
"Well, Tyler," she starts and gestures towards her books. "Tutor me."
She points to the desk chair parallel to her bed. Tyler takes a seat there and pulls out his books from his backpack.
Tyler cracked open his book, "So what chapter are you on?"
"How old are you?" Violet blurted out. "I'm sorry. It's just that you look kind of young, but obviously you're tutoring me so..."
"I'm 15," he answered as he felt his cheeks heating up. He knew he was coming across as such a nerd, he didn't want to look at her. He didn't hear laughter so far. Maybe she isn't like most popular girls.
"You probably think I'm some stupid bimbo," Violet says making him feel slightly guilty for thinking that she was an idiot a few minutes ago. "I'm not, really. I'm actually a straight A student. Except for math. Not my thing."
Tyler cracked a smile, "You're in luck, then. Math is my thing."
"Chapter 5," she says with a slight smile.
It takes Tyler a moment to figure out what she was talking about, but he soon remembers his question before the subject got off topic, and turned towards chapter 5 in his textbook.
Pretty soon, after an hour of trying to make sense to Violet, Tyler decided that that was enough for today.
When he arrived home, he went into the kitchen to find his mother. Yeah, so what if he was a momma's boy? She was moving around the kitchen, making dinner, "Hi honey, how was tutoring?"
"She's a bit clueless but I think we can work through that."
Tyler hears his older sister's footsteps heading down the stairs. She was in Violet's group of popular seniors. They were both cheerleaders. He wasn't sure they talked that much but she knew her. This terrified him. What if she told Violet all kinds of embarrassing things about him?
"How was the tutoring session with Summers?" Skylar asks the second she lays eyes on her dorky little brother.
"It was fine, now if you two lovely ladies will excuse me, I'm going to go do my homework." He'll do anything to not have to talk to Skylar about Violet. The teasing would be relentless.
Violet was. . . surprising. She was beautiful; most girls as gorgeous as she is let it get to their heads. She didn't seem to. Any other senior would have been hostile and rude towards him but he found her surprisingly kind.
Maybe tutoring Violet Summers wouldn't be as bad Tyler had thought.

"Who's that girl you're always hanging out with at school? Your girlfriend?"
Tyler looked at Violet, surprised she actually thought he had a girlfriend. Really? Him? No way.
"Uh. . No that's my friend, Hannah."
"She likes you," she says with a snarky smirk that made Tyler's face heat up.
"She does not. She's just a bit clingy. She can't help it, I suppose," he reassures her and himself. Hannah and him? She may enjoy that but that's the last thing Tyler could handle at the moment.
Hannah and Tyler met in 2nd grade when she sat by him on the bus. She had black hair and brown eyes that most guys would probably fall for if they gave her the time of day. Tyler was, obviously, not most guys. Sure, Hannah was pretty and really nice but he has just never been interested in her that way.
"So you don't like her?"
"No, no, no. I like her. She's nice. I just. . I don't think she's my type," he says, looking into Violet's breathtaking blue eyes. He forces himself to return to the homework they were previously focusing on.
"I didn't think so either."
"Homework, Violet."
"Fine. But I still don't think I'm ever going to understand what a freaking polynomial function is," she rolls her eyes and sighs.
"Maybe that's enough for today. Tomorrow, same time?" Tyler starts to pack up his things.
"Yeah, see you." He gets one last look at the angelic girl in front of him before closing the door and leaving the mansion. He gets on his bike and rides home with thoughts of Violet plaguing his mind.
She was so down to earth and perfect, it was unbelievable. He wondered what could happen if they got a bit closer. . .
No. Stupid, Tyler thought to himself. As if a girl like her would ever be interested in a boy like me.
