You couldn't sleep that night. Every time you closed your eyes you saw that vampire standing outside your window, merely a few yards away - her taunting grin forever stained in your memory. Every time you closed your eyes you felt like she was hovering over you, waiting to kill you. You couldn't help the images of her standing over your children in their rooms, ready to kill them.

It didn't help that Paul had not come to bed tonight either. You felt bad for getting mad at him, but you couldn't help it. It wasn't his fault, but it was because of what he is. You tried not to think of how your life would be if you had married a regular human instead of Paul. You loved him with all your heart, and you did not regret the life you had chosen to start with him. You are just terrified for your children's safety. You could not survive if they died - especially being murdered by a psycho vampire.

You heard a noise every so often, which you knew in the back of your head was Paul walking around keeping an eye out - but you couldn't help the fear that it wasn't him. What if they snuck up on him and killed him? What if he's laying out there dying right now and you're in bed trying to sleep? You couldn't bear the thoughts rushing through your head any longer, so you hesitantly opened your eyes - glancing around the dark room to make sure there were no intruders. You slipped your silky black robe on and quietly stepped out of your empty bedroom, looking down the dimly lit hall for Paul.

You decide to check on the children, just to be sure. Opening the door as quiet as possible, you walk over to Jace's bed, where he and Aiyana were sleeping. You put them all in the same room tonight to keep each other from being afraid, and it seems to have worked. Aiyanna had been crying before bed, but now she was cuddled beside her older brother, fast asleep. You stroke her warm arm affectionately before moving on to check on Dakota. He is also fast asleep in his own bed, his limbs sprawled messily across it and the blanket hanging off his legs. You smile for the first time all day at his sleeping body, gently tugging the blanket from his tangled legs and placing it over his body properly.

You glance out the window briefly, tugging the curtains shut as much as possible and checking that they were locked securely. You heard your thoughts reminding you that a locked window was not going to keep out a bloodthirsty vampire, but you tried to ignore it. You feel exhausted but you know you will not be sleeping tonight, especially not alone in your big bed. As much as you are worried about your children, you are also worried about your husband - and for Emily and Sam and their own children. It felt like you were worried about every person and everything - the feeling was overwhelming.

You decide to sleep in here with the kids tonight, seeing as Paul probably would not be joining you and you wanted to be sure they were safe. You went back to your room and took your pillow and one of the blankets, making a spot on the floor below Dakota's bed for you to rest on. It certainly was not comfortable, but you ignored the aching in your back and eventually drifted off to sleep.

Around three in the morning, Paul decided that it seemed as though no one would be making an appearance tonight. He was very apprehensive about going to sleep, but he knew that he needed energy for the morning. He probably wouldn't be able to fall asleep, but at least he could lay down for a little while. With one final glance around the property, he went inside and locked up. Paul trudged down the hall, peeking into his bedroom quickly before he was going to check on the kids. Only, the bed was empty. Panic started setting in as he realized that he did not know where Y/N was. He quickly opened the door to his children's shared bedroom, a sigh of relief escaping his lips as he spots you sleeping on the floor.

Guilt washes over him as he takes notice of just how afraid you really are. You hate sleeping on the floor - he had never once seen you do it in nearly the decade he had known you. He debated whether to pick you up and take you to your room, but he knew if he touched you that you would wake up - and he had a feeling you had already struggled enough to fall asleep. So despite not liking seeing you sleep on the hard floor, he chose to leave you there. He walked back to your bedroom and grabbed his own pillow and blanket, returning to the kid's room and taking a seat beside you.
