At dusk, Smokescreen and Optimus are doing a morning patrol. After Optimus reminded Smokescreen on several occasions to slow down while driving through town to avoid being pulled over by the human authorities. They leave Jasper and go off into the forest, where it was safe for them to transform into their robot forms to conserve some energon. About ten minutes into their search, they hear the cry of a human in distress, "Mom, Dad, I'll never disobey you again, just stop hitting me please,"
"Smokescreen, i know you want to help the human. Remember, we can't reveal our true forms," Optimus says, quickly grabbing Smokescreen's should pulling him back towards him.
"So, how are we supposed to help the human than?" Smokescreen asks.
Optimus takes his hand off Smokescreen's shoulder, and the recruit's optics widen in chock seeing A 6' 1'' man in his middle thirties with short black hair and light brown eyes. His outfit is a leather jacket and matching shirt and jeans, the same color as his robot form. He is standing next to the Autobot leader.
"Wait, we have human forms, too," Smokescreen asks.
"Not exactly, this is a holoform. It only allows us to touch and walk around in densely populated areas without jeopardizing our Robots in disguise status," Optimus explains.
"Did Doc, program one for me?" Smokescreen asks.
"Yes," Optimus answers.
After Optimus tells Smokescreen how to activate it, he smiles, seeing his reflection on Optimus' chest panels. A 5'7'' teenage boy with red hair, blue eyes. He is wearing a racing outfit complete with the number 38 on both shoulders, and his Autobot symbol is just below his right shoulder.
The two rush off toward the sound. They hide behind a tree as the two can hardly believe what they are seeing a fifteen your old girl getting punched and kicked in the stomach by her parents.
"I thought humans parents are supposed to love their offspring. So, why are they hitting her?" Smokescreen asks.
"I'm not sure, but we have to help her," Optimus says.
Before they assist, Optimus contacts agent Fowler to explain what they are witnessing. Agent Flower tells them to do whatever they can to protect the girl till he and his men arrive with the proper authorities Smokescreen and Optimus leave their hiding spot spiriting up to the humans. Optimus pulls the mother away from the girl and ties her hands behind her back. Smokescreen stands in between the girl after the father breaks free from Optimus' hold.
"If she is your daughter, why are you hurting her like this," Smokescreen asks.
"If none of your business how I chose to punish my child," the man says.
Just then, Agent Fowler arrives and stuns the man with his taser, and he falls to the ground. A few of Flower's men take the parents away to meet up with the police who are waiting just outside the entrance to the forest.
"Prime, since when do you bots disguise yourself as humans?" Agent Fowler asks, not seeing to three-story bots standing in front of him.
"I'll explain everything later," Optimus says.
"Yes, I think we should have Doc take a look at her," Smokescreen adds, holding the unconscious girl in his arms.
After walking back to their Cybertronian forms, Smokescreen carefully places the girl down on the ground as Optimus shows him how to turn off the holoform. Smokescreen picks up the girl again, and Optimus calls for a ground bridge. The Autobots rush her to the medical bay as soon as they enter the base, worried that the girl's life is in danger. After Ratchet scans her revealing that amazingly she didn't sustain any internal injuries from her parents' actions. They hear her let out a small groan as the girl begins to wake up. The group activates their holoforms in the hopes it would help the girl feel a little more at ease.
"How are you feeling?" Smokescreen asks.
"Please don't hurt me!" you whimper scooting away in fear.
"It's okay. I won't hurt you. Optimus and I saved your life," he explains slowly, coming closer, "What is your name?" he asks, placing his hand on your shoulder.
"Y-Y/N," you stammer as another girl with bright pink highlights in her hair comes up to you, scaring you. "Hi! I'm Miko!" she said happily as your wounds were unnoticed to her.
"Miko, Y/N has been through a very stressful ordeal and needs to take it easy," Optimus snaps as she slumps in defeat, walking away, "If you are up to it, could you tell us why your parents were harming you?" Optimus continues.
You just look down at your lap and remain silent. Optimus suggests leaving the room so Y/N could rest for a bit. An hour later, Optimus' holoform walks back into the medical bay to see Y/N putting on your jacket.
"Y/N, where are you going?" Optimus asks.
"Somewhere I can't cause you or anyone else any more trouble. None wants me to be alive because I'm just a waste of space," You reply, turning around as your eyes begin to fill with tears.
"Y/N, who made you believe that you don't deserve to live?" Optimus asks as he walks closer.
"It started with my biological parents. They abandoned me when I was 12. those two were my current parents. They claimed I was a freak. A mistake even, and I attempted to end my life 13 times!" You sob.
At first, you tense up when Optimus gives you a soft hug because this is the first time anyone comforted you or been kind to you. A few seconds later, you begin to let your guard down slightly as you wrap your arms around Optimus and hug him back, continuing to cry into his chest.
"Y/N, I can assure you that my teammates and I will do whatever we can to help you," Optimus says as he begins to run your back to get you to calm down.
"Thank you, but from the way both sets of my parents treated me I don't want to get my hopes up that what you're saying is true," You mumble through your tears, "I should just go back to living on the streets, it's obvious that none cares about me anymore," You sniffle.
"I care about you, Y/N. You are more than welcome to stay here until one of my allies, Agent Fowler returns to discuss a more permanent solution to your living situation," Optimus says.
Smokescreen comes in to check on you, and his spark aches as he sees you crying your eyes out into Optimus' holoform's chest. Since he is still learning about Earth himself, so isn't sure how he can help. The recruit decides that leaving things to Optimus is the best thing for him to do, so he turns around walks back to the command center.
