Chapter One:New Phase

The sound of my alarm going off woke me up and it was exactly 5:30 am. I am a morning person and waking up early isn't an issue for me especially if I have Dusk Till Dawn playing as my alarm and what's even more exciting about today is the fact that it is going to be my first day at the Royals university and oh damn ain't that a new experience I can't wait to start. I wake up to start my usual morning routine, prayer, making my bed,7 minutes workout,drinking lemon water,taking a shower and getting ready for school. My first class starts at 8am and I literally have to rush because I don't have a car and it's quite a distance from home. My name is Courtney and I come from a humble family raised by a single mother. Since I can remember, all I wanted was to meet my father but everytime I bring the subject up my mum's moods change and she becomes too upset to talk about him. Away with my painful fatherless life, we were not this humble before. My mum had lots of money and I even had my own car. The house we were living in was so posh until my mum fell sick. It was so serious the doctor had to do a surgery on her and the money for the hospital bills and her meds made us lose everything. It's a good thing though that she had secured my college money and no matter what she couldn't touch it. We now live in a small apartment and I lost all my fake rich friends after we lost everything but hey I'm fucking Courtney and small things like that don't bring me down...kinda...ok ok you got me yah I'm hella emotional and they really really get to me. It's 6:12 right now and I have to rush out so after putting on a black shirt dress and my wedged boots and a little make up coz I'm a girly girl n y'all know I gotta do my make up you know my concealer,powder,blush, highlight and my eye make up I'm out of my room and when I reach our living room my mum surprises me by singing a happy birthday song. Wait, what? It's my birthday today! Oh crap, it's my fucking birthday today!... that's all my mind is thinking right now. I hug her tightly and thank her for the 18 years she's raised me. She goes to the kitchen and brings out a vanilla cupcake,my favorite with one lit candle and makes me make a wish before blowing it. In my mind I wish that this new phase I'm starting should be full of non normalcy coz I don't want a normal life anymore I want it to switch up a lil bit adventurous. I blow the candle as my mum claps. "Thanks mum, you didn't have to."
"I had to, I love you so much Courtney and I'm really sorry I can't throw you a huge birthday party but I want you to know that I'm proud of you, not only as my beautiful daughter but also as this wonderful lawyer you're going to be" I could feel tears and this was going to be an emotional moment and I didn't Wana spoil my make up."Mum, I love you too but I have to go or I'll run late for my first day of school."
"Oh yah right. I ordered a taxi for you and it's packed right outside."
"I could have taken the bus, you shouldn't have gone through the trouble and the money wastage."
"I had to, it's your special day baby. Now run along or you'll be late." I couldn't help but hug her. As I sat in that taxi looking outside the window I anticipated my 6 years in the university. "Madam, we are here." I get out and thank him and as I stand outside this marvelous place I can't help but feel nervous and anxious all at the same time.
