"Good morning class, everyone enjoyed their three day vacation?" Mr. Hamilton, our homeroom teacher asked us.
It was answered by all our exhausted sighs. I didn't pity him at all because he gave us a homework, which I didn't do. "So, pass all your assignments!" he announced. Since I was seated in the middle of the column, I took out a clean sheet of paper and started jutting down the answers of the guy behind me. He's one of the nerds in my class named Nigel. I wrote the answers as fast as I can.
"What are you doing? Why are you copying my homework? Didn't you do yours?" he complained.
"Isn't it obvious?" I said inside my head and paid no attention to him, still writing all the answers. Luckily, Mr. Hamilton had his back facing us because he was writing something on the board.
"I'm telling on you if you don't pass my homework to the front," Nigel persisted.
"Geez, for crying out loud," I yelled.
"Miss Rose, is there something wrong?" Mr. Hamilton suddenly called my attention.
"No sir," I passed both Nigel and my papers to the front. I think I'll still pass. The person in front of me shot me a pitiful glance.
I shot Nigel an evil glare and he squirmed a little. I slouched comfortably in my chair and pulled out my cell from my jeans. There it was, dangling happily from its place. The keychain River gave me when we were in the Beach Party. My heart gave a small beat. Its shape is a heart and I'm confused. Does the heart mean that he loves our friendship? Or does that mean he loves loves me. The thought gave my body a shiver. I shove my cell back into my pocket and decided to look at the teacher.
The heat's getting into me. Our two air conditioning units are not working well so we had to open our windows for some air, or no air at all. As sweat trickled down my neck, I used my hand to wipe it off. But suddenly, it snaked its way to the necklace Clyde gave me when we were in the beach. My fingers smoothed the pearl hanging on to the necklace. It felt nice and still familiar. A smile suddenly had appeared on my face. Then suddenly, I look up to see Mr. Hamilton tapping his feet in front of me.
"Miss Rose, have you been listening to what I just said right now?"
"Yes sir," I lied but I tried my best to stay calm.
"Then what did I say just now?"
"You said, 'Miss Rose, have you been listening to what I just said right now?' " I tried copying his deep voice. A few low laughters around the room were heard.
"Miss Rose, I'm serious," he said when I know he's trying to hide his laughter.
"I'm sorry, sir. Won't happen again," I grinned. "I'll try to listen. I promise."
"You better!" he turned his back to me and started discussing again.
The girl seated beside me whispered, "Nice job, Rose!"
I winked at her and started listening to the electron configuration thing on the board.
It's lunch and I had to meet Janna and River. As I pass through the hallways, I also passed the art class. Through the windows, with no lights on, I saw someone still inside the class fixing his things. Yup, it's a guy. Since my curiousity tempted me to go in, I went in. It' s Clyde.
"Hey," he said.
"Hi," I said, stopping two chairs from him.
"What are you doing?" we both said at the same time.
