"Here you go Eddie, we don't have time for sober sponsors here" Holly Fletcher nudged him and Edward couldn't help but smile slightly as he took a sit of the alcohol she handed him. He wasn't about to show her his real reaction to the substance so instead, he smiled."You're a bad influence"
"You need it, Ed, trust me" she patted his shoulder slightly with a wink as they progressed further into the Denali campground. Scattered around, people were beginning to prepare themselves for the long night ahead. A little way away, Josh was chatting to anyone and everyone who would listen, it was clear to most that he had had something more than just some expensive whisky.
"Josh is our resident rich guy" Holly informed Edward as they sat side by side on a mossy log, Holly jumping slightly as the slightly damp log touched her thigh. The cheerleaders still floundered about in their cheerleading outfits, not having time to get changed before they all made their way to the clearing but it was okay because this was tradition. "His parents are family lawyers."
"I didn't see that from him"
"He likes to be rebellious" she giggled "His older sister is the complete opposite, walks around like a princess" Holly informed him, feeling like it was her duty to tell him all the gossip in town. " Josh used to be dating Mae" she informed and Edward followed her gaze over to where Mae Chang was kissing Harry Turnwell perhaps a little too forcibly. "Now she is dating Harry"
"I see, you and Harry are friends?"
"Kind of I guess, we shared a crib" she giggled "our parents were friends in school... Dance with me?" Holly questioned and he was left with whiplash due to the change in conversation. Music blared around them and he was surprised that she could even hear what he was saying over it.
"Nobody else is dancing?"
"Someone always needs to be the first Ed" she rolled her eyes, seeing that he wasn't exactly going to dance anytime soon so she hopped up and twirled around in a circle, a few people cheering and joining her instantly. Josh hopped over a log excitably, spilling whisky all over his leg as he scrambled to her side, giving her a quick hip bump as they danced with their arms in the air.
Holly Fletcher thought of Josh like a brother, she always had. He was such an amazing person, but the bond they shared was very distinct in that despite the time they had shared together, it had never extended beyond friendship. Holly danced in the circle of his arms, her back against his chest and despite the position, people didn't see it as odd because that was the way they were with one another. The way they had always been.
Glancing over from her partially tipsy state, it was to find Edward speaking lowly to his sister, Alice Cullen. The little inky haired girl was watching Holly dance with a smile.
"Be right back" Holly whispered to Josh who glared at her, he was definitely something a little more than drunk. After a thought, she pressed the bottle of whisky into his arms and he grabbed it protectively, swaying in an out of time fashion along to the music. She made her way back over to Edward and the crease in his brow immediately vanished when he saw her standing there. "Hey, I'm Holly"
"Hi Holly" Alice jumped up and the blonde girl grinned, Alice was just a little bit shorter than Holly but the cheerleader couldn't help but find her cute regardless, Edward scoffed and they looked at him with a frown, to which he raised his hands defensively. "I'm Alice"
"Nice to meet you, Alice"
"Let me introduce you to the others" and Alice dragged her away into the treeline, just like that. Edward grumbled as he wandered behind, Alice was good at scaring people away but currently, Holly continued to smile and glare back at him, mocking his brooding expression as they were joined by the other godly looking people. "Holly, meet Emmett and Rosalie" she stated and gestured between them.
"It's so great to meet you"
"And you" Emmett winked, shaking her hand a little violently, her whole arm moving from the force. Rosalie tapped him in the chest with an eye roll before she turned to assess the new girl to their group, Holly was no doubt beautiful and energetic, she brought a new side out of Edward that the others had never seen.
Bella Swan- the name that the Cullens refused to mention in the presence of the mind reader- had ruined Edward.
Bella and Edward's relationship had been toxic from the start, she was too shy, too needy for the life that they offered. Holly was bright and she was compassionate, she saw the good in people and as Rosalie saw Holly stood beside Edward Cullen, she had never seen a couple that went so well together, they seemed to gravitate toward one another and Rosalie had no choice but to accept it.
Perhaps, somewhere deep down, Rosalie had always known that Bella wasn't right for Edward when he came home nearly every day with a frown on his face when she caused him unnecessary stress just from walking. And maybe that was why Rosalie had disliked her all along. She couldn't be sure but seeing these two, she knew she couldn't refuse Edward this love.
"Hi Holly, I'm Rosalie... You can call me Rose"
