Beautiful Shadows

Chapter 3

        "Why is it so cold?" I thought. I move to pull my covers over my head but there are none. It's then that I realize I'm not in my bed and the soft padding underneath crunches whenever I move. Slowly, I move my hands around and feel nothing but cold, dead leaves. Where am I? I open my eyes only to get a blinding light seared into my brain. Quickly, I shut my eyes and scream. What was happening? Where was I? Was I kidnapped? 

        "It's called the sun! Ever heard of it?" said a voice. The sun? I've never seen the sun. What's it saying?

        "For your information I'm blind. I've never seen the sun! Who are you  and where the hell am I?!" My voice was full of shakiness as was my whole body. Standing up was going to be a challenge. 

        " Why won't you open your eyes? It's really quite pretty in this forest." it said. I at least assume it's a he, otherwise this woman's voice is very low. 

        "I  told you I'm blind you... you kidnapper!" I scream. 

        "Nah. Your world only is dark because you refuse to see and open your damn eyes. Like do you need some help?" it said with sarcasm dripping from its voice. Refuse to see? Has it lost its mind? I would give anything to see. This asshole is just mocking me! "Oh and I am not a kidnapper I am... Well I don't know what I am, but a kidnapper isn't it!" 

        "Fine just to prove you wrong I'll open my eyes and when I can't see a damn thing you'll look stupid!" Cautiously I open my eyes and literally saw that I was wrong. After the bright light faded I saw everything, the trees, the leaves, the It. Wait, why can I see? Everything was so much to take in that I had a whole different panic attack. My lungs constrict and my heart does a wild dance in my chest. Each panicked breath releasing a puff of pale mist and finally I let lose a scream so loud I had to cover my own ears. Then I remember I'm not alone. It stares at me but I don't understand its expression, but it makes me uncomfortable. 

        Slowly it makes its way over to me. Frantically I search for something, anything that I can defend myself with but nothing is in sight. Standing over me it offers me its hand and I take it to stand up but then hit it across the face and then bolt in the other direction. I look behind me and see it's running after me so I sprint faster. I'm so caught up in It that I don't realize I'm heading straight for a tree and SMACK! My head hurts, my lungs hurt, my everything hurts.

        "Careful!" it said. "Those trees just like to jump in front of people and attack them." The giant smile gave away his sarcastic tone. 

        "Shut up you...IT! Now leave me alone! I've never been able to see before, so how the hell should I know what a forest looks like?" 

        "It? I am an it? For your information I am a boy and not an it. By the way you got something on your face there." I put a hand up to my face and felt wetness coming from my eyebrow. Looking at my hand I see something beautiful, it must be a color!

        "Hey you! Is this a color?" I ask frantically, my excitement building. He looks at my forehead and smirks.

        "It has a color although that's blood. It's red by the way. You really don't know anything do you?" I shoot him a death glare. Red, so that's what it looks like. I need to know more. I point to the tree.

        "What are the colors on the tree? Oh and the sky! And the sun!" I list off everything I see and I'm out of breath by the end  of my list.

        "You calm now? I'll explain it all to you." He chuckled.

        After a few hours I get my answers and I have a whole new knowledge of colors like primary colors. How wicked is that? I'm still wondering where I am though, but I could honestly care less. I knew colors! We talk some more and I find out his name is Skai and he's lived in the forest for as long as he can remember. We lay back just as the sun dips and touches the horizon, and I soon feel my eyes closing as I'm submerged back in the darkness.
