chapter three

"We're still throwing the party for Jeongguk, just so you know." Yoongi sighs but makes no move to try to change their minds, "we were wondering if you would mind us inviting a couple of friends, though. We know how you feel about strangers around Jeongguk."

"I mean, as long as you trust them, I'm fine with it. But if they so much as make my baby cry, I will make them suffer for eternity." He peppers Jeongguk's face with little kisses as he giggles so hard, he almost falls.

"You don't have to worry about that. One of them, Hoseok, is like literal sunshine; all the kids love him. Namjoon is really awkward, so I doubt he'll be anywhere alone with Jeongguk or you." Suddenly, Jin gets an evil look on his face.

"You should totally invite your neighbor- Taehyung, right?" Yoongi blushes a little, but tries to keep up his act, "It's a shame we haven't met him yet even though you spend so much time together."

Yoongi's face lights up like a fire. Over the course of these six months, Taehyung and Yoongi have been spending a lot of time together. Whenever Yoongi has to leave unexpectedly, Taehyung's always there to look after Jeongguk, never once complaining. He always comes home to Taehyung and Jeongguk cuddled somewhere, either playing with his puppy, coloring, or asleep.

He's even there to take care of Yoongi. Each time Yoongi feels like he's doing a horrible job as a father, Taehyung's always there to lift him up. When he gets himself sick, he's there to nurse him back to health while looking after Jeongguk.

Now that Yoongi thinks about it, Taehyung's always been there for significant moments in Jeongguk's life. He was there when Jeongguk said his first word (it was food), he was there when he took his first steps (when Jeongguk heard the door open, he was so happy to finally see Yoongi that he walked a few steps before falling), etc..

"Hello~ Earth to Yoongi!" A hand taps his face and when he looks down, he sees Jeongguk staring up at him with those big eyes. Because his hand is still on his face, he decides to pretend to eat it. It elicits a squeal from his baby bun, and as a smile takes over Yoongi face, he can't help but feel happier than he's ever been. Jin and Jimin watch them fondly.

"While this will probably be the cutest thing I've ever seen in my life, we still wanna meet Taehyung. Please invite him!"

"I mean, I can try, but he's probably busy or something.

"He's never busy when you ask him to look after Jeongguk for you." Hearing his name, Jeongguk looks up at Jimin and reaches his arms out. When Jimin picks him up, he immediately buries his face into his neck as he makes himself comfortable in his arms.

"Isn't he precious? I forgive you for all the trouble you cause earlier!."

"Trouble that wouldn't have happened had you listened to me~"

"Can you tell your father to stop being mean to me? I don't think my poor heart can take it." Jeongguk just giggles, his hands coming up to cover his mouth while he leans back into Jimin's chest.

"I think my son's been spending too much time with you; he's even laughing like you, Jimin. We should be heading out, too since it's getting late. We'll see you tomorrow."

Yoongi picks up Jeongguk who snuggles against him, a yawn escaping his lips, "say 'bye bye', bubba."

Sleepily gazing at the couple, Jeongguk moves his hand up and opens and closes his limb. "Bye-byeee."

"Bye, sweetheart." Jin and Jimin give Jeongguk a kiss on his forehead, and he smiles bashfully at them. "Make sure you invite Taehyung!" Yoongi rolls his eyes but agrees nonetheless.

...

"Hey, Yoongi, where were you today? I wanted to ask you something, but you were gone for the whole day."

Behind Yoongi is Taehyung. He looks like he's been up for a while, yet somehow he still manages to look good, "I was with my friends. What did you want to ask me?" He cracks open his door as he waits for Taehyung to answer, who seems to have gotten shy.

"I was, um... wondering if- if- why is this harder than it was when I practiced?!" Taehyung whines out, hands pulling his hair out of frustration.

"Hey, calm down. If you keep doing that, you'll start balding early." Yoongi chuckles out.

Taehyung takes a deep breath, "would you like to go to the park with me on Saturday? We could bring Jeongguk and Yeontan and just walk around and get ice cre-" his rambling is cut short when Yoongi covers his mouth.

"Are you- are you asking out?" Yoongi's face feels hot.

"I understand if you don't want to. I mean who'd wanna go out with me. And going to the park? That's so lame! Sorry for wasting your time. I'll be going now." Quickly turning on his heels, Taehyung speed walks away.

"Wait, I want to go!" Yoongi would've have chased after him, but he didn't want to jostle Jeongguk. It seems that he was being too loud because Jeongguk whines in his sleep, moving around to get more comfortable. "Sorry."

"Really?" Taehyung asks so hopefully, Yoongi almost cries.

"I'd love, too." After getting all the details, Yoongi turns to go in the house before he remembers something, "wait Taehyung. Tomorrow, my friends are throwing Jeongguk a birthday party, and I was wondering if you would like to come?"

"Sure! I don't want to miss the chance to see Jeongguk's adorable face covered in cake. Maybe yours, too."

Yoongi feels like he's going to faint, and Taehyung wants to die.

"Too soon, way too soon! Sorry, Yoongi, I'll see you tomorrow!" This time he runs before Yoongi even has a chance to blink.

Clumsily, Yoongi stumbles into his house and gently lays Jeongguk in his bed. Laying down beside him, he recounts everything that led up to this moment.

"I can't believe I'm actually going on a date!" As his body flushes, he covers his face when he lets out an inhuman noise. What am I? A fangirl?

He feels a small hand tap his bicep, "what's wrong, sweetie? Are you okay?"

Jeongguk blinks sleepily at him and raises a finger to his lips, "shh, too lou'." He closes his eyes and goes back to sleep.

Yoongi blinks.

He chuckles, quietly of course, "guess he takes after me some."
