Our English presentation was due tomorrow and my wonderful partner and ex-boyfriend had done nothing to help, nada.

I was pacing across the room while having a mental breakdown that Drew seemed to take no notice of.

As soon as I came close to him, he bolted up and slammed his laptop screen shut.

Narrowing my eyes, I eyed him suspiciously, "What exactly have you been doing for the past half an hour?"

Guilt spread across his face, one that l could read a little too well, "Nothing, nothing at all. Why would you even say that?"

I wasn't convinced, "Come on, spill."

He scratched his neck nervously, as he hesitated to tell me the truth, "Okay, so um... ever since that night with Ashton, I've been trying to figure out what exactly happened to Amy. And I've done some snooping around and I found that even though we all thought she died, there's no death certificate anywhere. I checked the hospital's records and they have been wiped clean."

I was so confused, "Wait, what the fuck? Does this mean... wait has Amy been alive this whole time?"

Sighing, he responded, "See, this is why I didn't want to tell you. There's no concrete evidence and I don't want you to get your hopes high. And, that's why you can't tell anyone, not your family, not Mads, not even Ashton."

--

I was at Ashton's house and we were supposedly investigating Drew's mystery. I felt so guilty that while he was searching for a false lead, I knew the real truth.

But there's no way I could tell him because if Drew's findings turned out to be wrong then Ash would be crushed. I didn't want the heavy weight of his guilt to consume him once again.

He was intensely focused on his laptop screen, when I gave him a nudge, "Come on, why don't we do something fun? Let's watch a movie, we can even watch that one you like so much, Die Hard."

His head rapidly jerked to look at me, "You would never say yes to Die Hard, unless... unless you're guilty about something."

I sucked at lying, I had the most obvious tell, my nostrils always flared up even when I spoke a half-truth, "Guilty? I'm not hiding anything, why would I be hiding something? Of course not, you don't know what you're talking about. Me, lying to you? Never, ever."

Right as he narrowed his eyes in suspicion, I got a text that saved me from this upcoming confrontation, "Shoot, I forgot I had to do something very important. Gotta go bye!" as I kissed his cheek.

Ashton POV:
Ally was definitely hiding something and the only person who know the truth was Mads. I called her up a few times, but there was no response.

After the fifteenth time, she picked up sounding half asleep, "Umm... What time is it, isn't it way too early to be calling?"

Concerned, I replied, "Mads it's six in the evening, where have you been? Are you okay?"

After sucking in a deep breath, she said, "No as a matter of fact, I'm not okay. I've been at the hospital since seven in the morning, for the past two weeks. And of course, nobody seems to give a damn about what I'm doing, not even my best friend."

"Come on, Mads I'm sure she cares, she probably just has a lot going on right now. With me and Sophia and everything."

There was a pause and I realised, oh shit she didn't know about all that. And if there's one person who hates Sophia more than Ally, it's Mads.

"Sophia? What the fuck was she doing with Sophia?", she sounded enraged.

"Umm... I think they sorted things out, and now, I guess they are kinda friends?", I stated but it came out more like a question.

"And what happened with you and her?"

Groaning, I said, "Insults, arguments and a whole lot of other shit. But on the bright side, it's all okay now, surprisingly thanks to Sophia."

Sarcastically, she retorted, "Well then, next time you have a problem why don't you call her instead?"

"Mads, please, I can tell that you're exhausted, let me come pick you up."

With a mumbled okay, she hung up.

Ally POV:

"Yes, dad what happened?", I was pissed that he made me come all the way home, just for this.

He patted a seat down beside him, "You know how we were talking about that Ashton boy. I remembered our first conversation, how he told me he was from South Hill. By any chance, is his mother's name Emma Woods?"

Confused as to what this had to do with anything, I nodded my head, "Yes it is."

He inhaled deeply, "Ally, I hate to tell you this and I want you to know that I have changed now, but you remember when I went on that business trip to South Hill. Well, the meeting didn't go well and I had gone to this bar, where I had a lot to drink. I met this gorgeous woman there and I ended up going to her place. We slept together and right as I was about to leave, her son walked in. He was a young boy, around twelve or thirteen but I could never forget the hurt on his face when he saw his mother with another man, who wasn't his father. That woman, her name was Emma Woods and Ashton is her son."
