New Seats

Adalyn and Tom walked to History together. "So..." he said. "Are you in a relationship?"
She grinned. "Ha ha, I wish!"

"Wait, you're seriously not dating anyone?"
She nodded. "I mean, yeah. Who'd wanna date me?"
"Hmm."

They entered the classroom and took their seats. Mrs. Sergeiovna announced, "There's going to be a group project!" The students murmured among themselves. "Here's the groups. Everyone go to the table I assign you."

Everyone picked up their things and started talking. "Maddie, Lauren, Sophie, Jack - group 1. Sarah, Brendon, Ryan, Spencer - group 2. Jackson, Ricky, Serenity, Ian - group 3. Adalyn, Sawyer, Jimena, Jacob - group 4. Everyone, please go to your groups and select a team leader. Team leaders, report to me."

Tom looked at Adalyn. "Yay, we're together!" he said cutely. At least, that's how Adalyn saw it. Jimena glared at Adalyn. Jacob sneezed.

"Ok, so, who's the team leader?" asked Adalyn. Normally, she didn't speak, but Tom made her confident. She looked at Jacob who shook his head. Tom raised his hand the same moment Jimena did. Jimena smiled "cutely" and said, "Oh, Tom can be the leader. He's much more responsible than me." She giggled and tilted her hair. Tom raised his eyebrows.

"Addie, if you want to be the leader, you can," he offered. Adalyn was glad that her hair covered her face when she looked down because she was smiling and blushing because she was called Addie. "Oh. Okay, yeah sure." She walked to the teacher and said, "I'm the leader of my group."

Mrs. Sergeiovna looked at her group. "You sure?" she asked. It seemed that even the teachers underestimated her. She gave Addie the packet with instructions. She returned to her group.

"Ok, it says here that we have to create a solution to a problem of the past," read Addie. "Seems easy."

Everyone then started to discuss ideas for the project.
Addie: Let's focus on the Ancient Egyptians and building the pyramids.
Tom: But they successfully built it.
Jacob: What about -
Tom *interrupts*: No.
Jacob: But you didn't even listen -
Jimena: OMG you guys, let's exchange phone numbers! And Snapchats! And IG's!
Addie *death glare*: STFU!
Tom: Let's just frigging choose an idea.
Jacob: Water dams -
Tom: Shut up!
Addie: Ugh, this is so hard!
Tom: Water dams in ancient Africa to help with the droughts?
Jacob: But I said that -
Tom: Shut up. No one asked.
Jimena *whiny voice*: No, I don't like that idea!
Addie *sharp inhale*: Then what do you suggest?!
Jimena *starts filing her nails*: No need to be so rude! Sheesh...
Jacob *smiles*: Yeah, let's do the water dam idea.
Mrs. Seigeiovna: Team 4, quiet!
Tom *stands up*: Miss I can't be in a group with Jacob!
Sarah (from Group 2) *smiled flirtingly at Jacob*: Come over to this group!
Brendon (also from Group 2) *glares at Sarah*: Yo wtf you're my girlfriend!
Mrs. Sergeiovna: EVERYONE QUIET!
Tom *gives Jacob the middle finger*
Jacob: YO WTF MAN WHAT DID I EVER DO TO YOU?!
Jimena *is somehow across the room in Group 1 ranting to her new BFFS*
Addie: Wtf it's your first day here HOW do you have so many friends?!
Mrs. Sergeiovna: I'm going to have to divide this group up. Jimena, stay in group 1 -*sharp squeal from Jimena*- Jacob, go to group 3. Tom and Addie... hmm... where can I fit you guys?
Tom: WE CAN BE PARTNERS!
Addie: Yeah!
Jacob: Hey I wanna be with Addie! She's smart! (~er than Jimena hehe)
Jimena: WTF
Mrs. Serigeiovna: Kids these days....

The bell rang. Next period was English. Tom and Addie walked to class together. "So... do you like me or something?" asked Addie seriously. Tom, being the pale person he was, blushed. Addie, fortunately, didn't notice, "Haha, I was only kidding!" she said. They walked into the room. The teacher announced, "Free period you guys!"

Tom whispered to Addie: "You wanna hang out after school?"

Addie nodded.
