Chapter Six –
*beep beep; beep beep*
The continuous noises of her alarm clock blared all throughout her room, leaving a ringing sensation in her ears once again. She groaned, rolling to the other side to violently shove her alarm clock into one of the dressers, cursing mentally for setting an alarm during summer. She stared at the ceiling vacantly, hearing the birds chirping from her bay window. She counted one-to-ten before she opened her eyes once more, deciding to prop herself up. She grabbed her phone from the bedside table, unlocking it to read the time. 9:47 AM. Not a bad start for another day of the summer, but still. It was too early.
Before she could even slip on her slippers, her door was yanked open revealing a panting sister of hers, Meg. Her expression was priceless – sweat was trickling down her head and her grin was wide as ever. It took her about 10 seconds before she cooled down and sat on the edge of Sam’s bed.
Sam chuckled to the sight of her sister as excited as ever, “What has gotten you so excited, Meg?” She asks, creasing her eyebrows on a hyperventilating Meg. She smirked, finally placing her slippers on and stood up across Meg. She was still hyperventilating.
“SPILL THE BLOODY BEANS, MEGAN.” Sam raised her voice, making Meg compose herself before taking a few deep breaths and started to talk.
“Guess who got a summer job back in London as a head photographer in an awesome clothing line?” Meg asks. Sam’s eyes widened to the news. Did she really get it? She’s been spending more than four months sending a resume to as many clothing lines as possible – hoping she would get hired. And after the long wait, it was totally worth it.
It was Sam’s turn to hyperventilate, jumping up and down in happiness and excitement, “Oh my God! I can’t believe this! Are you bloody serious, Meg? This isn’t one of your stupid summer pranks on me?!?!!?” She screamed, hoping it was real this time.
Meg nodded rapidly, joining Sam as she squealed and jumped up and down. After a few more seconds of squealing and loud thuds on the floorboard, Sam paused for a while and asked the question she’s been dying to ask, “What clothing line is it, Meg?” She asks, her heart beating as fast as Batman’s mobile.
Meg grinned widely again, “Hollister & Co.” She says in a long breath. Let the squealing begin again.

“I still can’t believe this, Dad! I actually got the job!” Sam continued to express her sudden emotions about getting the dream job. This was all she’s ever wanted. And who knows, if she gets the job permanently, she will have an all-expense-paid college tuition fee for four straight years with Photography as her major. Just exactly what she wanted.
“It’s nice to hear the good news, Samantha.” He says lifelessly, using his old, raspy voice once more on Sam as he fixated his gaze on the newspaper.
Meg smirked, placing her fork on the table, leaving a loud thud echo around the dining area, “When will you ever listen to us, my dear father?” She asks in a posh accent.
He sighed, placing down the newspaper, pushing his square glasses closer, “I really am proud of you, Samantha. You have no idea how much I want to jump with you for joy.” He says, flashing a wide grin.
For the first time in so many years, he grinned at Samantha – and this time, it wasn’t forced. Samantha grinned as well, chucking down the last bit of her tea before running to her dad and hugging him from behind, “My life will change from now on, Dad. I’ll be working in London! That’s way off my trolley right now!” She says, feeling the sudden vibration of her dad’s chest as he chuckled.
