Day dawns across an empty, windswept field,
And distance grows between us greater still.
No matter where I roam, our love I'll shield;
A soft touch of your hand my soul would fill.
O sing, fair One, and keeper of my heart,
That I might hear your voice upon the air.
No king, no crown could dare keep us apart
Your song will be the kiss our lips shall share.
Though Winter's cold snow covers all the ground,
Your absence is what chills me to my core.
Within your arms can my true warmth be found;
Your blooming smile the Spring that I adore.
When a deep sorrow turns my day to night;
O maiden fair, your love becomes my light.
