Starting the Catastrophe

It was a brisk Friday afternoon, and my family was headed to the local pumpkin patch to pick pumpkins for jack o’lanterns. It was a tradition for our family to decorate our small three story mansion with a jack o’lantern in some of the windows. Once we arrived at the patch, I set out to find the largest pumpkin I could. I ended up choosing a large squat one that felt like it weighed 10 pounds. All of us satisfied with our choice of squash, we piled back into the car and headed home while planning what to carve.

Once we were home again, we set to work cutting off the tops and scooping the guts out. Then we retired to our respective floors to carve our masterpieces. I hauled my pumpkin up to the third floor and started drawing what I had in mind. It took me a couple of hours to complete, but my pumpkin looked like a pretty realistic demon when i was done carving. I placed the scary demon on the window bench near my room and stuck a lit candle in it. I called it a day and went to bed, eager for Halloween the next day.
