She didn't deserve this. No one did.
I stared at her legs as the doctor checked up her. I can't believe this. I just can't. I've wished hell upon this girl but still this. I watched the outgoing go-lucky cheerleader break down before my eyes, my best friend holding her hand all the way. All I did was stare. All I could do was stare. I stood there frozen my eyes trained on her legs.
"We need to run more tests. It seems like her spinal cord was also affected and we overlooked the simple detail" the doctor told us worriedly. I could only manage a stiff nod but Jacob was an entire different case.
"YOU! you said she was going to be okay! You assured us that it was nothing serious. You have to fix this! " he pointed an accusing finger at the doctor
"We will do all we can" the doctor said tiredly before walking out.
"Jackie, what's going to happen to me? I might never walk again" Barbara said tears streaming down her face
"Don't say that, you will be alright. I'll make sure of it" he gave her a tight hug. Seeing this as my cue to leave I left the room closing the door behind me but not before hearing the last bits of their conversation.
"I Love you, Jackie" she said her voice muffled
"I Love you too, Barbie"
Just because I was used to them being together didn't make it any easier for me. I was still hurt hearing them share those three letter words. It's just something I might never get used to.
I made a sharp turn and bumped into someone making him or her drop the ice-cream he or she held. I was about to apologize but the bitch decided to be rude.
"Shit!" He cursed looking at the now fallen ice cream "Watch were you're going! You made me drop it. Hospital idiots"
"Excuse me?" I raised an eyebrow at him. He looked up at me and a sign of recognition flashed his eyes
"You should watch were you're going. You made me drop it" he pointed at the melting ice cream
"Dude it was an accident no need to get bitchy about it"
"I'm being bitchy? you're the one that made me drop the fucking ice cream. Shouldn't you be apologizing?"
"I would have if you didn't go ahead to call me an idiot. I'd say we're even" I folded my hands across my chest daring him to say more. He looked amused if anything.
"As if. You made me drop the ice cream, I called you an idiot, an insult you fully deserved at the moment but what did my ice cream ever do to you?" He said his lips tugging up a little
"It got in way. I've paid my dues" I said walking away with a smile of my own but before I could get far he held my arm back
"You owe me another ice cream" he said. I turned to face him. "What are you waiting for, let's go" he looked surprised at the fact that I didn't argue with him about it. We took the elevator and made it to the ground floor.
"Race you!" He yelled out of the blue. I wasn't one to turn down a challenge So I ran after him to the ice cream store
He got there first.
He had a smirk on his face that prove How smug he was that he won
"I won" he grinned
"I'm sure you feel proud"
"As a matter of fact I do" he said heading for the counter "I believe that since I won, I get to pay for the ice cream"
"What kind of prize is that?" He just shrugged at me and ordered. "I want vanilla" to that he scoffed at me
"Why were you in the hospital?" He asked seconds later
"I went to see a friend" I replied simply "And you?"
"My little sister broken her arm while trying to jump down from a tree"
"That would have hurt a lot"
"It did. She cried all the way to the hospital" he grimaced at the memory. Our order was brought to us and I stared at it like it had sprout too legs and walked on the table.
"What did you order me?"
"Chocolate chip cookie dough with chocolate ice cream and rainbow sprinkles" he said casually taking a bite out of his that was identical to mine while holding a banana split sundae
"Are the sprinkles really necessary? I still want vanilla"
"Yes it is and I didn't expect you to want such a boring flavour" he said taking long strides into the hospital
"I wanted vanilla"
"And I want your mouth shut. Eat your ice cream, sprinkles"
"What did you just call me?"
"Sprinkles"
"Now we're on nickname basis"
"Yep" he said popping the 'p'
He stopped opened a door and walked into the room.
"Tyler!" I heard a tiny voice scream "And you brought me ice cream"
"Anything for my lil' sis" he smiled at her
"Is she your girlfriend?" My body froze at the question while Tyler smirked
"No, but she could be your friend if you want. If That's Okay with her" he tells her. She takes in a large spoon while looking at me then she smiled the spoon still in her mouth
"Hi, I'm Lisa. I'm glad you aren't any of Tyler's girlfriends. They're all mean!" She said
"Lisa. That's a beautiful name" she giggled at that "I'm Rachel and I'm also glad I'm not any of Tyler's girlfriends too"
"You have the same ice cream as Tyler!" She pointed out. I can see that.
"Aren't you going to have any?" I stared at the ice cream and decided to just get it over with. I raised the spoon to my mouth conscious of Tyler's stare. It tasted heavenly and I'm sure it showed on my face. Considering the knowing smile Lisa had on her face and the smirk Tyler had on his.
"How was it?!" Lisa asked excitedly. Not wanting to lie to the little girl I told her the truth. "It tasted amazing"
I talked to Lisa for a while before she fell asleep. She was a very excited and inquisitive girl. Tyler joined in our conversation every now and then but he stayed out of most of it saying it was girl talk.
"She does that a lot"
"What?"
"Tire herself out. It's only seven pm" he said stretching out his muscles as he stood. It was already seven and I didn't notice.
"I have to leave. It was nice spending time with you and your sister" I walked to the door, opening it.
"Same. See you in school tomorrow, sprinkles"
