THE lady behind the counter eyed Hyejin suspiciously before asking, "How are you related to Mr. Lee miss?"
"I am his friend." The woman nodded, "The room is on the second floor." Hyejin quickly mumbled a small thank you while making way towards the said room. She decided to come visit the room that was written on the paper. She couldn't help but hope it was Taeyong. She didn't see him anywhere in the hospital and she despite not wanting to admit it, she missed the optimistic ghost dearly.
Finally reaching the second floor she began to look for the room. Her arm had started to ache due to the crutch but she paid no heed. The thought of meeting Taeyong again made her excited and giddy. She wanted to tell him that she was fine during her time in the college. After passing a few rooms, she stopped in front of a door. "Room 1270." she recited to herself.
Setting up her hair and jacket, she let out a long nervous sigh. "Here goes nothing." She opened the door as quietly as possible, looking around the room she noticed a coat lying on a chair just infront of her. Closing the door, she quietly walked towards the bed.
She expected it to be empty, she expected Taeyong to be floating there greeting her. As soon as her eyes laid upon the hospital bed, her breath hitched. Her eyes widened and her palms became sweaty. She didn't know what was happening to her. A sudden headache made her wince as she placed her hand on her head to soothe the pain.
Taeyong was there lying on the bed. However the confusing thing was that he was alive, in flesh. He was not a ghost. He was lying there lifeless with numerous tubes attached to him. He was breathing but looked extremely pale.
"W-what? How? Why are you.... alive?" She asked to no one in particular. Suddenly her head started to sway making her lose her balance and fall. Her crutch made a loud noise as it clattered on the floor.
"I thought you were a ghost....ugh!" Her head throbbed causing her to shut her eyes. Unknown memories flashed by her eyes making her heart quench.
°°°
"Hey Hyejin!"
"Man how does one play so well."
"Hyejin ah! Don't eat my food!"
"You need to study idiot."
"Hyejin..."
"HYEJIN LOOK OUT!"
°°°
The antagonizing noise of car screeching filled her mind. Her eyes was still closed, memories were like bullets to her. She remembered what she had forgotten and she had forgotten alot of things.
°°°
"Who is he mom?" Heyjin asked her mother who had tears running down her petite face. Her mom patted her head carefully so she wouldn't cause any pain. The bandage wrapped around her head was slightly red. Hyejin didn't know why but she was crying. She thought she had forgotten the most important thing of her life but she couldn't remember, no matter how hard she tried.
"Mom why am I moving with auntie?"
"Darling, you have gone through alot. It would be for the better."
Everyday Hyejin would get nightmares of the night she couldn't remember. Days passed yet her memories didn't return, eventually the nightmares stopped and she didn't try to remember.
"Hey Hyejin this keychain is cute, where did you get it from?" Sujin asked, she just shrugged, "I don't know... I had it since a long time ago.."
°°°
Gasping for breath, Hyejin looked at him again. She now knew why her mom sent her to live with her aunt, she now knew from where did she get that keychain she treasured the most. He gave her on her first win in middleschool. Taeyong was her childhood friend. The two were inseparable, they stayed with eachother in every difficult time.
He was her bestfriend, her personal advice giver, most of all her was her first love.
Back in her college first year, on a chilly night of december. The two were out buying gifts for their families. Hyejin never told him her real feelings, in fear of their friendship getting ruined. "Hey let's go to that shop, we still haven't bought anything for our friends." Hyejin dragged him towards the shop which was on the opposite side of them.
While crossing the road, it was this moment that ruined everything. The signal was red ofcourse yet a car came rushing towards them. Taeyong subconsciously pulled hyejin back by her hood but by doing so he couldn't save himself. Hyejin fell down badly, her head hit the side of the pavement. The car couldn't stop in time and neither could Taeyong move away quickly. He got hit by it.
She remembered everything now. She continued to cry as she held her crutch with shaking hands and tried to stand up. She slowly walked near the bed to see him clearly. Sitting down on the seat beside the bed, she stared at his unconscious face.
He was breathing though it was slower than normal. He was in a coma. Her head was still hurting alot. She took his face in her hand that was stil shaking, he was warm. He was alive. Hyejin let out a dry laugh, "Hey Taeyong... weren't you a ghost..?"
